Tom Sizemore's Family Determining “End of Life Matters” After Brain ...
The family of Tom Sizemore is reportedly determining “end of life matters” after the actor suffered a brain aneurysm earlier this month.
Sizemore’s manager, Charles Lago, released a statement confirming Sizemore’s condition: “Today, doctors informed his family that there is no further hope and have recommended end of life decision. The family is now deciding end of life matters and a further statement will be issued on Wednesday.”
On February 18, Sizemore collapsed at home and was subsequently hospitalized. Doctors determined that Sizemore suffered a brain aneurysm as the result of a stroke. The 61-year-old actor has been in critical condition ever since, and is currently “in a coma and in intensive care” per Lago’s statement.
Sizemore made a career in Hollywood out of playing tough guys, appearing in a number of hit crime and war movies in the ’90s and early 2000s like Heat, Natural Born Killers, Pearl Harbor, and Black Hawk Down. His big break came in 1998 when he starred as Technical Sergeant Mike Horvath in the World War II movie Saving Private Ryan, opposite Tom Hanks and Matt Damon. Sizemore earned a SAG nomination for best ensemble for Saving Private Ryan, and the film went on to be nominated for the Academy Award for best picture. In 2000, Sizemore scored a Golden Globe nomination for best performance by an actor in a miniseries or motion picture made for television for his work in Witness Protection.
Sizemore has struggled with drug addiction, and has had multiple run-ins with the law. In 2003, he was convicted on domestic violence charges after physically abusing and harassing his then girlfriend, Heidi Fleiss. Following the conviction, he served six months in jail. In 2007 he was arrested for suspicion of possessing methamphetamine and was later sentenced to 16 months in prison. In 2010, Sizemore revealed to Larry King that he had been addicted to cocaine, heroin and meth, and in that same year appeared on Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew.
Sizemore’s legal and drug-related problems extended into the late 2010s. In 2017, Sizemore pleaded no contest to two charges of domestic violence after getting arrested on suspicion of assaulting his partner. He received 36 months of summary probation. That same year, it was revealed that Sizemore had been removed from a movie set in 2003 after allegedly touching an 11-year old-actress on the genitals. (Sizemore declined to address the situation at the time. “Our position is ‘no comment,'” said his agent, Stephen Rice. According to THR, he later tweeted in response to a Twitter user who brought up the allegation, “It didn’t happen, bro.”) Most recently, Sizemore was arrested for possession of “various illegal narcotics” in 2019. According to TMZ, as part of a plea deal, the actor entered a pretrial drug diversion program as well as a drug prevention program.
“We are asking for privacy for his family during this difficult time and they wish to thank everyone for the hundreds of messages of support, and prayers that have been received,” concludes the statement. “This has been a difficult time for them.”
