AUSTIN, Texas – No. 1/2 Texas Football rolled to a 51-3 win over ULM behind five rushing touchdowns in front of the fifth-largest crowd in Darrell K. Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium history with an attendance of 102,850 on Saturday night.
The Longhorns' rushing attack was effective all night, as they rushed for a season-high five touchdowns and 239 yards on the ground. Jaydon Blue had a career day with 25 rushes for 124 yards and four total touchdowns (three rushing).
Arch Manning, making his first career start, was 15-for-29 for 258 yards and two touchdowns. Isaiah Bond was the leading receiver with two catches for 75 yards, including a 56-yarder.
The Texas defense allowed just three points and only 111 yards of total offense, the fewest allowed by the Longhorns this season. Anthony Hill had a big day with a sack and his first career interception, which was the Longhorns sixth interception of the season.
After the Longhorns threw an interception on the game's opening drive, they bounced back with a touchdown drive on their second possession. The first big play of the game came when Manning connected with Bond for a 56-yard pass to set Texas up in the redzone. The Longhorns then handed the ball to Blue on the next four-consecutive plays to punch it in the endzone.
Hill quickly gave the Longhorns another scoring opportunity with an interception that he returned deep into ULM territory. Blue found the endzone again on three-yard touchdown reception from Manning.
The Longhorns kept the scoring going on their fourth drive of the first quarter, with Manning connecting with Ryan Wingo on a 17-yard touchdown pass to make the lead 21-0.
Blue's career day continued in the second quarter, capping off a 12-play 87-yard drive with a two-yard touchdown run.
The Warhawks got their only points of the game on a 35-yard field goal with 1:46 left in the first half. ULM looked to add more points at the end of the half but Alfred Collins blocked a field goal attempt as the first half expired.
To open the second half, Texas kept the scoring going with a six-play 66-yard drive that was capped off by a Jerrick Gibson two-yard touchdown run.
The Longhorns defense joined in on the scoring with a safety in the third quarter when Liona Lefau recorded a tackle for loss in the end zone. The safety was the first by Texas since Sept. 18, 2021 against Rice.
Texas capped off the scoring with a pair of rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter, by Blue and Ryan Niblett.
UP NEXT Texas will play its first ever SEC game, welcoming Mississippi State to DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 28. The game time and television broadcast information will be announced at a later date.
