September 22, 2022 at 8:46 PM EDTBrowns RB Nick Chubb has been a major factor
Per Next Gen Stats, Nick Chubb is averaging 7.87 yards after contact in this game so far. It was key to the Browns scoring drive and is largely due to inept tackling by the Steelers secondary.
Browns lead 7-0.
September 22, 2022 at 8:43 PM EDTAmari Cooper puts the Browns on the board
Tackling Nick Chubb is very hard. Steelers DBs Ahkello Witherspoon and Minkah Fitzpatrick both missed on that 36-yard run, and Chubb might have scored if not for running into teammate Donovan Peoples-Jones. Instead, the Browns score two plays later, as Amari Cooper beats Terrell Edmunds on a slant.

The Next Gen Stats formula says the Steelers were mistaken to kick the field goal there and the miss makes it look like the computer was correct on this one.
First 4th down decision @nextgenstats 4th down decision guide says GO by 2.3%
Math says 42% chance to convert first down. 50% chance to make FG
By missing FG the Browns now have good field position to get tonight's first score.— Prime Video Sports Analytics & Insights (@PVSportsStats) September 23, 2022
September 22, 2022 at 8:34 PM EDTLow scoring affair
This game is just as much of a low scoring slugfest as expected so far, as on the game’s three drives so far there have been 12 plays for 27 yards, two first downs and three punts.
September 22, 2022 at 8:33 PM EDTEarly Pittsburgh pressure
Larry Ogunjobi gets the first sack of his Steelers tenure to end the Browns' drive on third-and-1. Alex Highsmith, who jumped offside moments earlier on third-and-6, also got pressure on the play after lining up off the ball on the interior. Now the Steelers are set up with great field position after Miles Killebrew tips the punt.
Steelers get home to sack Jacoby Brissett and force a Browns’ three-and-out.
The early pressure on Brissett is a good sign for Pittsburgh as the Steelers were one of only three defenses held without a sack last week (also Dolphins and Colts).
September 22, 2022 at 8:27 PM EDTThe grind-it-out game continues
As Pittsburgh gains only 18 yards on four plays before punting but Steelers fans can take solace in that Mitch Trubisky threw a deep pass on that drive. Maybe the Steelers are going to rely more on deep passes this week than they have thus far this year.
September 22, 2022 at 8:24 PM EDTBad omen for Browns?
In the last 15 meetings with the Steelers, the Browns are 3-0 when they score an opening-drive touchdown.
They’re 0-11-1 in games in which they failed to do so.

It’s odd Cleveland got away from the run, as they gained 14 yards on two runs to start the game then gained zero yards on three passes and had to punt.

September 22, 2022 at 8:17 PM EDTBrowns get the ball first
The Steelers won the toss and deferred. Cleveland gets the ball first. It’s game time.
September 22, 2022 at 8:13 PM EDTSteelers CB Ahkello Witherspoon could be challenged often
Look for Steelers cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon to be targeted early and often in this contest, as he has allowed 12 completions on 16 targets this year for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Each of those metrics is unacceptable and will make Witherspoon a primary part of Cleveland’s passing plans.
September 22, 2022 at 8:08 PM EDTRookie Alex Wright replacing Jadeveon Clowney
Rookie edge Alex Wright is set to start in place of the injured Jadeveon Clowney for the Browns tonight. Clowney is inactive with an ankle injury.
On offense, starting RT Jack Conklin is expected to make his season debut after missing the first two games while recovering from a torn patellar tendon suffered last season.

As expected, Wright is the announced starter in Clowney's place.

September 22, 2022 at 8:06 PM EDTDiffering levels of success with temporary QB solutions
These are two teams attempting to succeed with below-average, band-aid solutions at quarterback. So far, the Browns have been far more successful than Pittsburgh. Though Jacoby Brissett is averaging just 6.2 yards per attempt while completing 65.6 percent of passes — the sort of numbers you’d expect from a journeyman backup filling in — the Browns rank fourth in expected points added per drive (1.15) and sixth in actual points per drive (2.67).
Their running game has been able to carry them on offense. The Steelers, on the other hand, rank 26th in points per drive (1.3) and 27th in EPA per drive (-0.70). Pittsburgh has run for first downs on just 20.5 percent of its carries — tied for the 21-lowest rate in the league. Cleveland ranks fourth in that same category, at 30.3 percent.

September 22, 2022 at 7:59 PM EDTSlugFest
Online sportsbooks expect this to be one of the lowest scoring games of the week, as the over/under for this contest at BetMGM is now 37.5 points. That makes this matchup one of only two Week 3 games with an over/under of less than 40 points, joining the Dallas-NY Giants Monday Night Football game at 39 points.
September 22, 2022 at 7:51 PM EDTDeFabo: What I'm watching for the Steelers against the Browns tonight
I'm keeping my eye on the Browns' run game versus the Steelers' run defense. At least in theory, it looks like a massive mismatch. Virtually since the moment Kevin Stefanski took the reins and implemented his zone-blocking scheme, the Browns have boasted a top-five rushing attack. Meanwhile, the Steelers had the NFL’s worst run defense last year, ranking dead last in yards allowed per game (146) and per carry (4.99).
However, somewhat surprisingly, the Steelers' defense held Cleveland under 100 rushing yards in both meetings last season, which represented two of the Browns’ five worst rushing outputs of the season.
As the two AFC North rivals prepare for Thursday night, there’s one big question mark: the absence of T.J. Watt. The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year was a force against the Browns last year, racking up 5.5 sacks, eight QB hits and 11 tackles. Can the Steelers replicate their success from last season with their most-important piece missing?

September 22, 2022 at 7:44 PM EDTJackson: What I'm watching for the Browns against the Steelers tonight
The Browns are really good with their early-game offensive scripts, and if they can grab an early lead and keep the crowd engaged it feels like their defense will get a boost.
If the Browns don't score early or give up a big play early, maybe some doubt will set in after last week’s defensive breakdowns. Nothing Mitch Trubisky and the Steelers have done in the season's first two weeks say the Steelers are capable of putting 24 or 28 points on the board, but the Browns’ inability to close games has been a problem — and last week was devastating enough that it's fair to wonder about the defense’s psyche and confidence level tonight.
