Highlights

  • A collaboration straight out of Yoko Taro’s wildest dreams.

During today’s State of Play, Stellar Blade is getting a long-awaited photo mode, enhancements for the PS5 Pro, and its soundtrack will be available on a streaming platform near you. Speaking of... Sony also announced that Eve will team up with another scantily clad android when the Stellar Blade x Nier Automata DLC launches sometime later this year.

Sony is launching shiny new “Chroma” console covers for the PlayStation 5 Slim that come in pearl, indigo, and teal. And if having an iridescent console isn’t eye-catching enough, you can also get new DualSense controllers to match.

The Chroma console covers will cost $64.99 USD, while the DualSense controllers will cost $79.99. Sony is launching the Chroma pearl and indigo accessories on November 7th, followed by teal on January 23, 2025. The new colors look neat, but they’re quite intense — I’m not sure I’d want to swap out the sleek blue, red, or gray of the PS5 Slim for these.

  • Sony hasn’t forgotten about you PSVR 2 fans: Hitman VR looks snazzy.

While some of us regret our purchases, there was one token PSVR 2 game in Sony’s presentation today... and Hitman World of Assassination looks good! A bit bloody, fair warning. If I owned the headset, I’d probably buy it. More details here. It’s coming December as a $10 upgrade for the base flatscreen game.

  • Sony has just revealed seven additional games that’ll get enhanced by its PS5 Pro, coming November 7th, on top of the games it previously revealed. New titles include Stellar Blade, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, F1 24, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, both Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4, and Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

That means the whole confirmed lineup so far has 20 Enhanced games, including:

  • To close out Sony’s State of Play presentation, Sucker Punch debuted a first look at the next game in its award-winning Ghosts series. Dubbed Ghost of Yotei, players will inhabit a new female protagonist named Atsu, who wields a shamisen in addition to a samurai’s traditional sword. According to the trailer description, Atsu will travel the wilds around Mount Yotei accompanied by a mysterious wolf companion.

Sucker Punch Studios, the developers behind the Sly Cooper and Infamous series, released Ghosts of Tsushima back in 2020. The game was praised for its quiet, contemplative moments as much as it’s Akira Kurosawa-style samurai action. Earlier this year, Sucker Punch released a PC port of Tsushima and confirmed that a movie based on the game is in the works, with John Wick director Chad Stahelski tapped to lead the project.

  • Horizon’s Lego spinoff arrives on November 14th.

Sony has finally revealed a release date after first announcing Lego Horizon Adventuresin June. The game is coming to the PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

  • Fortnite gets its own official PS5 DualSense gamepad.

Preorders open October 3rd. Also, there’s a new split-screen mode for Lego Fortnite.

  • Final Fantasy father’s Fantasian is finally coming to PS5.

In 2021, Hironobu Sakaguchi released Fantasian — a luxuriously beautiful RPG that uses handmade dioramas for the game’s backgrounds — exclusively on Apple Arcade where it has remained sequestered to the lament of JRPG enthusiasts everywhere. During today’s State of Play, Sakaguchi announced that a console port of the game will debut on PS5 December 5th. The game is also coming to Switch, PC, and Xbox.

  • Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver is one of those series of games that has always felt unjustly left behind to me, and at Sony’s State of Play today, it’s finally getting its due, at least a little. The two classic Crystal Dynamics games, which I enjoyed in their penultimate form on the Dreamcast, are getting a remaster courtesy of Aspyr Media.

The remastered games will appear on December 10th on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, and PC (Steam or Epic Games Store).

  • Lunar and Lunar 2, beloved old JRPGs, are coming to PC, Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation.

These good old games can cost serious money to play on genuine discs, even assuming you’ve got an old console — so it’s great Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete are coming back! Sony announced them today for PS4 and PS5 but they’ll hit Switch, Xbox and Steam too.

They’ll have “Updated visuals, widescreen mode, and more” when they arrive as the Lunar Remastered Collection, in spring of 2025. More details here.

  • Welp, that trailer’s going to give me nightmares.

A new gameplay trailer for Hell Is Us shows how you’ll have to go about defeating the faceless supernatural beings that have taken over your world. The game will come to PlayStation, Xbox Series X | S, and PC next year.

  • Fall started three days ago, y’know.

Astro Bot kicked off today’s State of Play presentation with a sneak peek at the game’s forthcoming DLC. We got a glance at snippets of the five new speedrun levels and the 10 new bots Astro will have to rescue including some Helldivers and Eve from Stellar Blade. Curiously, Team Asobi did not provide a release date for the DLC, sticking with the nebulous “Fall 2024” window.

  • Sony’s State of Play starts soon.

The company’s State of Play presentation starts today at 6PM ET and will feature a slew of game announcements ostensibly to advertise the new PS5 Pro. Sony says the event will last roughly 30 minutes and feature over 20 games for PS5 and PSVR2.

Get all the details for how to watch here, and tune in with us below.

It’s time for another PlayStation State of Play livestream where Sony showcases its next big game and hardware announcements. Sony has promised we’ll see “more than 20 upcoming PS5 and PS VR2 games from studios around the world” during the 30-minute-plus presentation.

Sony announced Astro Bot during its May State of Play stream, and the game racked up “Game of the Year” nominations once it launched earlier this month. Now, September’s showcase will try to present strong follow-ups that keep the momentum going.

Get ready to see more PlayStation games. Sony is hosting a State of Play presentation tomorrow, September 24th, and the company says it will feature news and updates on “more than 20 upcoming PS5 and PS VR2 games from studios around the world.” Sony says the State of Play will be more than 30 minutes long, and you’ll be able to watch it at 6PM ET / 3PM PT on YouTube and Twitch.

The show is taking place just two days before preorders for the PS5 Pro are available. Sony’s initial presentation about the PS5 Pro was a little lacking, so hopefully we’ll get some better looks at games that will be enhanced by the new console.
