Spencer Rattler transfer speculation from Oklahoma renewed with father's 'options' comment
Spencer Rattler has been quiet on the plans for his future after the former prize recruit was benched against Texas last week.
His father, however, opened up about some potential options for his son in comments made to the OU Daily this week.
“For right now, he’s focused on working for this team, and we’ll see what happens after Jan. 10,” Mike Rattler told Mason Young and Austin Curtright. “Hopefully he’ll be playing in the national championship on Jan. 10, and then after that we’ll evaluate where he is as far as if any teams are interested in him in the NFL, we’ll consider that.
“If we think, ‘Hey, you know what, we may ought to do another year or something at Oklahoma, wherever’… we’re leaving our options open whereas that is concerned, but for the most part, right now, we don’t even talk about it, because he’s got a task at hand to deal with.”

Mike Rattler's comments prompted renewed speculation that his son could potentially transfer from Oklahoma.
Spencer Rattler appears to have moved behind Caleb Williams on the Sooners' depth chart at quarterback after Williams came in for Rattler in the Red River Rivalry last week and rallied Oklahoma to a 55-48 win over the Longhorns.
Pro Football Talk's Michael David Smith wrote: "Although Rattler played very well in his first year as Oklahoma’s starter in 2020, he hasn’t played as well this year and likely hasn’t shown NFL teams enough to be a first-round draft pick. Given that he’s now behind Williams on the depth chart, Rattler’s best option will likely be to transfer and try to improve his draft stock next year."
BroBible's Grayson Weir wrote: "Obviously, Mike doesn’t have any idea what the future holds. And as of right now, neither does his son. But when you read that quote from Mike, do you not get the sense that if Rattler doesn’t get the starting job back, he will head elsewhere? It certainly seems that way."
The Spun's Zach Koons wrote: "Although Mike Rattler might not have complete insight into Lincoln Riley’s Oklahoma program, but his response to the weekend’s events is quite telling. Clearly his son is aware of the wide range of opportunities that will be open to him after this season. While Spencer Rattler might be focused on the task at hand in Norman, it’s difficult not to speculate about where he could end up next year."

A former top recruit, Rattler was offered by several other colleges before committing and signing with Oklahoma with Arizona State and Arizona among them.
Rattler was a standout high school quarterback in the Phoenix area at Pinnacle High School.
Rattler has thrown for 1,371 yards and ten touchdowns this season, but has also had five passes intercepted.
He has completed 74.3% of his throws, but for just a 7.8 yard average per completion.
Before the season Rattler was projected as a potential No. 1 NFL draft pick in the 2022 NFL draft, but many writers now think that he could use a fresh start at a different school next season to build up his draft stock.
What will Rattler do?
The speculation surrounding the Oklahoma quarterback and his future is bound to continue.
