Why does Sia cover her face?

Sia graced the stage at Miley Cyrus‘ New Year‘s Eve Party NBC special on December 31 and her performance has left some fans wondering why the singer often covers her face with a wig.

The Greatest singer gave a sensational performance on stage as she starred alongside David Byrne at Miley’s New Year’s event. Many fans have since been left with questions about her appearance.

The 47-year-old singer has one of the most unique avatars in the music industry at the moment. In most of her public appearances, she’s seen wearing a unique wig.

Her wig is made of half-black and half-blond locks of hair with big bangs that cover half of her face, mainly her eyes.

Why does Sia cover her face?

Insider reports that Sia said to Chris Connelly on Nightline in 2014 that she hides her face with a wig because she doesn’t want to be “famous or recognizable.”

Speaking to Chris, she reportedly said: “I don’t want to be critiqued about the way that I look on the internet.”

Speaking to James Corden during a 2016 “Carpool Karaoke” segment, Sia said that she doesn’t wear the wig when there are no cameras.

The songstress candidly spoke about her struggle with fame in her 2013 Billboard Op-Ed.

In her poignant Op-Ed, Sia wrote: “If anyone besides famous people knew what it was like to be a famous person, they would never want to be famous.”

She further used a rather unique metaphor to describe what being famous is actually like. “Imagine the stereotypical, highly opinionated, completely uninformed mother-in-law character and apply it to every teenager with a computer in the entire world,” she writes.

A look at singer’s moving performance on the New Year’s Eve special

Sia performed her viral song Unstoppable for her New Year’s Eve performance. The audience grooved as she sang the first verse of her 2016 track.

Soon, singer-songwriter David Byrne joined her on stage. The duo sang the chorus together before David ventured into the second verse. They also harmonized together as the live audiences swung along to the beats.

Sia also performed alongside Miley and Paris Hilton

Miley stepped on the stage in a pink cut-out dress as she sang the lyrics to Paris’ 2006 song, Stars Are Blind.

Soon, Sia joined her on stage in her signature black and blonde wig and the duo gave the audience a memorable performance as they grooved to Paris’ Stars Are Blind.

“Rady for this” Sia says as Paris enters the stage. The trio then sings the iconic song together, leaving audiences star-struck.
