Rickie Fowler breaks through ends fouryear drought and takes
Rickie Fowler, 34, last won on the PGA Tour 1,610 days ago. He defeated Collin Morikawa and Adam Hadwin in a playoff at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Rickie, finally.

For the first time in more than four years − or 1,610 days to be precise − men's pro golfer Rickie Fowler has won on the PGA Tour, taking the Rocket Mortgage Classic Sunday following a three-way playoff. On the first playoff hole, he edged out Collin Morikawa and Adam Hadwin with an 11-foot birdie; Morikawa and Hadwin each parred the hole.

Fowler's previous title came February 3, 2019, when he won the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Fowler, 34, has played well recently and had been within striking distance of a few first-place finishes but hadn't been able to break through. The No. 35 ranked player on the World Golf Ranking, Fowler shot a 24-under par at the Detroit Golf Club and a 4-under par 68 in the final round.

On his final hole of the last round, Fowler pinned an approach shot from 145 yards out to within three feet, setting up a birdie putt that put him into a three-way tie atop the leaderboard with Morikawa and Hadwin.

The playoff hole started inauspiciously after Fowler's tee shot sailed far right. He was forced to drop and his approach from about 180 yards landed safely on the green, setting up the tournament-clinching birdie putt.

Morikawa's approach on the playoff hole sailed a touch long, causing the ball to skip over the green and land in the rough. His birdie chip attempt landed short of the pin. Hadwin was in position to make birdie but a tough, 22-foot putt curled past the hole, leading to the par.

Despite the victory, Fowler left some strokes on the course, as he had a stretch of 10 consecutive holes (No. 8 through No. 17) with pars.

Fowler held a tie for the 54-hole lead at the U.S. Open Championship in mid-June, but he faltered in the final round, recording three bogeys in the first seven holes on the final round to open the path for eventual winner Wyndham Clark.

This is Fowler's sixth career victory on the PGA Tour and he will net a purse of $1,584,000 with the title.
