On Prince's 62nd birthday, estate reveals timely handwritten note on 'intolerance'

Prince continues to inspire.

On what would have been the legend's 62nd birthday Saturday, the Prince estate revealed a handwritten note the musician penned about racial intolerance, posting it on his Instagram page. Prince died in April 2016.

"Prince dedicated his life to speaking out against injustice, advocating for black excellence, and spreading the message of 'Love 4 One Another.' " the explanatory caption reads. "In this note that he kept in his personal archives, he wrote a message that still resonates today."

"Nothing more ugly in the whole wide world than INTOLERANCE (between) Black, white, red, yellow, boy or girl," Prince's note reads, before another "INTOLERANCE" in large letters.

On Sunday, the estate followed up with more timely words, including Prince's thoughts following the 2015 death of Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old black man in the custody of Baltimore police. Prince wrote the song "Baltimore" in support of Black Lives Matter that year.

“The system is broken. It’s going to take the young people to fix it this time. We need new ideas, new life," Prince said in words republished on Instagram Sunday.

On Sunday, Barack and Michelle Obama, as well as stars including Beyoncé and Lady Gaga, spoke in support of protesters seeking social change following the death of George Floyd in police custody. The group joined other voices in speaking to graduating students in YouTube's "Dear Class of 2020."
