Google unveils new flagship Pixel phones and its first smartwatch, which has Fitbit built in

Pixel Watch.
Google announced Thursday the Pixel 7 and Pixel7 Pro smartphones and its first watch, Pixel Watch. These devices were first teased at Google's May developer event. However, the company held an event in New York City to reveal more details about each product, including what's new and how much they'll be.
While the Pixel is showing signs of momentum, it still only has a small percentage of the smartphone market. CEO Sundar Pichai, Alphabet's first quarter earnings call, stated that the Pixel Series 6 was the "fastest-selling Pixel" and that the company had set a new quarterly sales record. With the new Pixel 7, the company hopes to continue that momentum.

Google earns most of its revenue from advertising, and doesn't report any revenue from hardware products. Google reports an "other revenue segment", which includes hardware, Play Store and non-advertising YouTube revenues. The company reported that it earned $6.55 billion in "other" revenue for the quarter. This is a slight decrease from the $6.62 billion it earned the previous year. Conversely, Apple made $50.5 billion in iPhone revenue during its second quarter.
The Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, and Pixel Watch will launch Oct. 13.
Here's everything you need to know about them.
Pixel Watch.
The Pixel Watch will include Fitbit health tracking features, which Google bought for approximately $2.1 billion.
Fitbit can be used on the watch to track your workouts, sleep quality, steps taken, and other information. It will sync with any existing Fitbit app on your phone if you have one. The Pixel Watch comes with a 6-month premium Fitbit membership. The service offers access to over 200 workouts and provides information about how heart rate and sleep trends have changed over time.
It also has smartwatch features like the Apple Watch. It runs the company’s Wear OS software which allows you download apps from Google Play Store. It integrates seamlessly with Google's products, including Wallet, Gmail Calendar, Calendar, and Google Home. Only Android phones can use the Pixel Watch.
Google claims that the Pixel Watch can run for up to 24 hours on one charge. This is six hours more than the Apple Watch Series 8.
The Pixel Watch starts at $349.99 with Bluetooth and WiFi, and $399.99 with 4G LTE. It also features Emergency SOS, just like Apple's Series 8. The company promises to add fall detection later in the year.

The first phones to use Google's Tensor G2 chip are the $599 Pixel 7 and $899 Pixel 7. Pro. It is clear that Google continues to build its chips rather than using a chip from Qualcomm. This was evident last year when it launched Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Google claims that the Tensor processor allows for features it cannot provide without it, including increased camera functions and on-device translation.
Google claims the Pixel 7's 6.3-inch screen is 25% brighter than last years model, which improves visibility outdoors. The Pixel 7 will be available with 128GB or 256GB storage. However, those who need more storage to save large files like videos and photos should consider the Pixel 7 Pro which comes with up to512GB.
In the past, Google's Pixels have had some of the best cameras in the market. While we don't yet know how the Pixel 7 will compare, Google claims that it has made improvements.
Google increased the resolution of its back camera to 50 megapixels. This should provide sharper images than the last year's phones. The Pixel 7 is cheaper than the higher-end model, but has the same front-facing, main, and ultrawide sensors. It doesn't have the zoom lens on its back.

The Pixel 7 Pro also has some high-end features. It has more memory which should make multitasking and apps feel faster. The Pixel 7 Pro also has a sharper display with a higher resolution and a higher peak brightness outside. It also has a faster refresh rate, similar to the iPhone 14 Pro Max. This means that scrolling through websites and playing games will look more fluid.
The new phones and watches will be available for purchase starting Thursday, ahead of their Oct. 13 release.
