Above Board Chamber luncheons for October postponed due to Hurricane Ian

FORT MYERS, Fla. (Oct. 6, 2022) – Due to the effects of last week’s hurricane, the Above Board Chamber of Florida is postponing its October luncheons until further notice. At this time, safety and recovery are of paramount importance to our community. We appreciate everyone’s understanding as Southwest Florida continues to recover.

The Above Board Chamber will bring top experts to town to provide valuable insight into how the Federal Reserve is managing the current economic environment. These special events will be held in Naples and Fort Myers. Hear their opinions on interest rates, labor and employment, as well as prices and other issues.

Shari Bower (regional executive for the Miami Branch of Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta) will be the guest speaker. She is responsible for Miami’s board of directors and Advisory Council on Travel and Tourism. She was previously employed by the New York Federal Reserve.

“I’ll do an economic outlook and what we are seeing in the data and what needs to happen for inflation to come down,” Bower said. “I will do a little bit of expectations around monetary policy and what the Fed is trying to do. I will share some of the information I have gathered from industry people. There will be lots of data, but also some anecdotal. These are serious challenges that they must overcome so they know they are not the only ones. Not a lot of people know the Atlanta Fed is responsible for Florida.”

Amelia Biehl (Ph.D.) from the Lutgert College of Business at Florida Gulf Coast University will also be sharing her expertise. She is the Chair of the Department of Economics & Finance at FGCU and was previously an economics professor at the University of Michigan-Flint. Research by the empirical microeconomist has been published in numerous high-ranking academic journals.

Jeanne Sweeney is the CEO of Above Board Chamber and is thrilled to host such top talent. “This is a big thing,” she exclaimed. “I am really excited about it. This is so important right now.
