In June, Mace and Khanna launched the Congressional Bipartisan Affordable Childcare Caucus. The federal government allocated $24 billion for child care relief as part of President Joe Biden‘s pandemic relief package. However, this funding is set to run out in September, putting over 3 million children at risk of losing child care and leaving hundreds of thousands of child care workers unemployed. Mace highlights the urgent need to address this issue for the sake of economic security.

Mace acknowledges that child care funding has not been a topic of discussion within the Republican Party. Bipartisan efforts to address child care in the past have also faced challenges in Congress. Khanna and the caucus aim to craft legislation that provides families with the flexibility to choose the type of child care they receive. They hope that at least part of their proposal can receive bipartisan support.
