Commodores extend NIT run with come-from-behind victory over Wolverines

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A 9-0 run in the final minute helped Vanderbilt men’s basketball overcome an eight-point deficit and lift the Commodores to a 66-65 win over Michigan in the second round of the NIT at Memorial GymnasiumSaturday.

Tyrin Lawrence sparked the comeback with a 3-point play with 58 seconds remaining, capping the rally with a driving layup after a turnover with 12 seconds to go on the way to a game-high 24 points for the Commodores (22-14). In between, Ezra Manjon made a pair of free throws and a driving layup in adding 17 points.

Lawrence added a team-best nine rebounds, with Quentin Millora-Brown contributing five, and Colin Smith scored all 11 of his points for Vandy in the first half.

The Dores will now play host to the winner of Sunday’s second-round game between UAB and Morehead State on either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Hunter Dickinson led the Wolverines (18-16) with 21 points and a game-best 11 rebounds, while Dug McDaniel scored 19 points.
