Mega Millions, Texas Lottery Confirm Friday 'Jackpot Alert'

It slid through Dallas earlier this week. It's dropped through Waco, College Station, into Houston and Beaumont and it's even spread to the uncivilized places in Texas too. No, I'm not talking about the delightful not so hot temperatures on this college football Saturday. I am talking about Mega Millions fever and a jackpot approaching a billion dollars.

A little too dramatic on the opening? Probably so. But the Mega Millions lottery jackpot is climbing nicely and based on conversations we've had with Texas Lottery retailers in Abilene, Corsicana, and on Galveston Island sales have been "brisk" in their stores. However, almost everyone who offered a thought felt that if there wasn't a winner on Friday. Their stores would be packed by Monday and Tuesday.

Did Mega Millions Get a Winner in Friday's Drawing?

The spirit of that question is regard to the jackpot. The game's top prize heading into Friday night's drawing was an estimated $740 million. Here is how the drawing played out in front of the cameras.

With $740 million (estimated) on the line we can tell you with complete confidence, because both Mega Millions and the Texas Lottery have already confirmed it, there was no jackpot winner in the Mega Millions drawing for September 6, 2024.

Jackpot Alert for Texas Lottery and Mega Millions

The Texas Lottery has an App that you can download for your phone. It's pretty handy if you follow the games. I received a note on my device that there was a jackpot alert associated with Friday's Mega Millions game in Texas.

Further review found that information to be accurate indeed. Friday's Mega Millions game produced a new millionaire, three "ten thousandaires" and two "twenty thousandaires". I am probably making up words and creating my own language but you get the idea?

The Texas Lottery confirmed five tickets in total matched a Mega Millions scenario of four "white balls" and the Mega Ball. By rule, the prize for that match is $10,000. The Megaplier in Friday's Mega Millions was "times two". Two of those tickets invoked the Megaplier to, in this case, double their winnings.

Texas Lottery Confirms New Texas Millionaire following Friday's Mega Millions

If you live among the glitz and glam that is Lamesa, Texas you just might know Texas' newest millionaire. The Texas Lottery does confirm point of purchase information for jackpots of one million or more. The million dollar winner in Friday's Mega Millions game was sold at the Stripes convenience store on  North Dallas.

That ticket matched all five of the "white balls" and only missed winning the jackpot by the Mega Ball number. There were four other Mega Million Match 5 Million winners in addition to the Lamesa ticket. Those tickets were sold in California, Florida, New Hampshire, and Illinois. A ticket sold in Ohio was a Match 5 Million winner but they opted for the Megaplier and doubled their before tax take to $2 million.
