Liverpool vs. Brighton result, highlights & more as Leandro Trossard scores hat-trick in thrilling draw

ANFIELD, LIVERPOOL — Roberto De Zerbi marked his debut as Brighton & Hove Albion head coach with a point at Anfield as his side played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Liverpool.

It was a perfect start for the Italian Seagulls boss, when his team raced to a two-goal lead in the first half thanks to Leandro trossard.

However, goals in either half from Roberto Firmino — one requiring a VAR check to overturn an offside call — dragged the Reds back level.

They looked set for a much-needed victory after Adam Webster had to make his own net from a corner to complete their comeback.

Trossard, however, managed to score another fine finish at the Kop end six minutes later to earn a well-deserved draw for the visitors.

FULLTIME: All over at Anfield and Leandro Trossard's hat-trick has secured a point for Brighton in a brilliant game.

Seagulls fans will have a lot of fun under Roberto De Zerbi.

84th min: GOAL! It's unbelievable! A Trossard hat trick levels it all!

Another fine finish at the back is this low cross that evades Liverpool's defence and is whipped in off the bar.

75th min: A brilliant save from Alisson prevents Welbeck from heading home at the near post with Brighton threatening again.

This could be a second goal.

63rd min: GOAL! Liverpool lead! Brighton lead!

This was a challenging game, and there is still much to do!

54th min: GOAL! Firmino drops a shoulder and leaves his man for dead, and then passes the ball home.

It's a beautiful, sweeping move in the build up, with Henderson, Thiago, and Diaz all involved to force Brighton into their box.

46th min: Brighton restart the game and there has been a change for Liverpool, with Luis Diaz coming on for Fabio Carvalho.

HALFTIME: Into the break at Anfield and Brighton hold a deserved 2-1 lead courtesy of Leandro Trossard's double.

Liverpool has responded well to Roberto Firmino's challenges and had enough chances to be able to get back in. They are now behind, with three points still to be claimed for a woeful start.

33rd min: GOAL! Liverpool are back in it!

Salah grabs a ball above the head and seems to lose control of his shot. Firmino is there to correct the situation and pass the ball to him.

Initialy, the linesman raises his flag for offside, but VAR confirms that Salah was indeed onside. The goal stands.

30th min: Big chance for Salah as the ball drops fortuitously in the box but Sanchez does brilliantly to get out and smother the effort.

18th min: GOAL! Brighton finally gets the second, and it's not more than they deserved.

After some excellent football around the box, Trossard makes a stunning first-time touch and he slams it home emphatically. It was a fantastic goal.

11th min: What a chance for Brighton to double their lead!

Welbeck stands tall to make a right-wing cross goalward, but he should have done so much more. Alisson can only save the header because it is a weak header. 

4th min: GOAL! Brighton takes an early lead

After dropping a shoulder to make space for work, Trossard has produced a beautiful left-footed finish. 

It was a great start for De Zerbi's guys!
