Leeds United vs Chelsea live updates: Aaronson and Rodrigo have home side 2-0 up

Chelsea have been much stronger in this second half and are really pushing for a goal. They very nearly get one through James but his driven effort is expertly tipped round the post by Meslier.

That is a huge save in the context of the match.

Pulisic, who continues to struggle to get in Chelsea's strongest starting XI, is into the action for the visitors in place of Gallagher. He's a player that Marsch, Aaronson and Adams will know extremely well, could he make the difference?

Ziyech has also been brought on with Jorginho's afternoon being brought to an end. Thiago Silva is given the captain's armband.

Jack Harrison, that is sublime! The Leeds winger looked to have run down a dead end when he was squared up against Loftus-Cheek on the left wing but, after a moment of magic, he breezed past the 26-year-old. Brilliant footwork!

Meanwhile, Marsch has replaced Roca with Forshaw in the first substitution of the game.

The attacking change to move from the 3-4-3 to 4-2-3-1 is paying dividends for Chelsea. James is able to get much more of the ball in offensive areas and the extra man in midfield is helping dominate the battle that they lost pretty much every time in the first half.

Although, the Blues do look much more susceptible to counter attacks and they certainly cannot afford to concede again.

This blog has turned into a Brenden Aaronson fan page in the last hour or so. The 21-year-old has well and truly ran the show in the opening 50 minutes.

His neat turns and often inch-perfect passing are both very impressive but the intensity with which he presses is staggering. Worth remembering that it was his relentless work rate that forced Mendy into the costly error for the opening goal.

There weren't any substitutions at half-time for either side but the away side have made a significant tactical switch.

James has moved to a more traditional right-back role, Loftus-Cheek has moved into centre midfield and Gallagher has moved into an attacking midfield position.

The relentless press from Leeds has been Chelsea's undoing on so many occasions after 45 minutes. The away side looked like rabbits in headlights for the vast majority of that half and as Liam says below, they are facing a huge uphill task.

Phil Hay has claimed that Leeds supporters have just seen the best half of football under Marsch so far and I don't think there's anyone who can argue with him.

HT Leeds 2-0 Chelsea

Attwell brings a close to an unbelievable first half at Elland Road. Leeds have been so good to watch, both with the ball and without it.

On the flip side, Chelsea have been largely rotten. They had a period of a few minutes where they started to dominate proceedings but that soon fell apart when Aaronson pickpocketed Mendy a yard or two from the goal line. Tuchel will be livid inside the away dressing room!

45' Leeds 2-0 Chelsea

The fourth official has indicated that there will a minimum of two minutes added on at the end of the half. Chelsea could do with using them to halve the deficit.

42' Leeds 2-0 Chelsea

While their first goal was handed to them on a plate by Mendy, Leeds are fully deserving of this lead. They have harried Chelsea at every opportunity and, more often than not, have forced the visitors into mistakes.

A really lazy foul from Sterling led to the free-kick that Rodrigo scored from, a four-minute period to forget for Tuchel's side.

37' Leeds 2-0 Chelsea

Leeds are absolutely flying at Elland Road! And a brilliant header from Rodrigo has doubled their lead.

The Spaniard - who now has four goals in three games - leapt higher than anyone else and powered Harrison's free-kick beyond Mendy and into the bottom corner. This scoreline is nothing short of what the hosts have deserved, they have been excellent.

Edouard Mendy, what on earth are you thinking?

The Chelsea goalkeeper makes a real mess of a simple back pass and allows the increasingly lively Aaronson to nick the ball off his toes and roll the ball into the unguarded net. Take nothing away from the US international though, he has been sensational today.

Edouard Mendy's horrendous error gave Leeds United the lead against Chelsea.

It has been a thoroughly entertaining 26 minutes of Premier League football so far, the only thing missing is an opening goal.

Although, judging by the above photo, Kristensen and Sterling are too busy doing everything they can to avoid the ball to worry about putting it in the back of the net!

23' Leeds 0-0 Chelsea

Another Chelsea counter attack and another big chance to break the deadlock. Mount, who has been the nemesis of Leeds for the last few years, tried to outfox Meslier with a reverse left-footed effort but the tall Frenchman just scampered across his goal line to palm it behind for a corner.

The Whites need to be very cautious of these counter attacks because, at the rate they are occurring, it will almost certainly provide their downfall.

19' Leeds 0-0 Chelsea

The few chances that Chelsea have created have, unsurprisingly, come from counter attacks. However, when they're not springing fast breaks, the visitors are being pressed to death by their hosts.

There are plenty of shades of a Bielsa team in this Leeds set up but there definitely seems to be an increased defensive awareness. Strong signs for his American successor so far.

The travelling supporters thought that Sterling had put them in front with a really neat finish. But, just as the ball hit the back of Meslier's net, the offside flag was correctly raised.

As I mentioned, Aaronson managed to draw a booking out of the very experienced Koulibaly a few moments ago and that came a couple of minutes after he left Gallagher on his backside, as you can see above.

The American midfielder has enjoyed a really strong start to life in the Premier League and is already showing why Leeds invested so much money on him earlier this summer.
