LaMelo Ball stats: Hornets rookie goes scoreless off bench in NBA debut vs. Cavaliers

The NBA regular season is underway and the Charlotte Hornets might have the most electrifying rookie in the 2020 class in LaMelo Ball. The Hornets start off their season against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night and we’re going to be keeping track of Ball’s performance throughout the night. The rookie will come off the bench to start things out but we should see a decent amount of Ball as the season progresses.
LaMelo Ball NBA debut live updatesFirst-quarter update — Ball had a modest first quarter as a pro and only managed to tally one rebound in four minutes. He’s taken a shot and put a few teammates in a position to score but is still waiting on his first NBA point and assist. I have a feeling some flashy passes are on the way.
Halftime update — We still haven’t gotten much from Ball. He’s added a pair of assists to the stat sheet but hasn’t scored. He’s 0-of-2 from the field. The Cavaliers have amassed a 65-44 lead. Perhaps Ball will get more productive during garbage time if the Hornets fail to get back into this game.
Third-quarter update — Ball is still scoreless in 16 minutes. He’s 0-for-5 from the field but has tallied 2 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. It doesn't look like we’ll get much offense from Ball, as his shot just isn’t falling.
Final update — Ball ended the night with a goose egg in the score column. He didn’t play at all in the final frame as the Hornets looked to cut into the Cavaliers’ lead. We’ll have to wait until at least Saturday for Ball to score his first NBA points.
