Red Sox's Justin Turner hit in face by pitch, treated at hospital

Boston Red Sox infielder Justin Turner left Monday's spring training game against the Detroit Tigers after being hit in the face by a pitch.
Turner immediately fell to the ground after being struck in the face by a pitch from Tigers right-hander Matt Manning in the first inning. The two-time All-Star was bleeding as Red Sox medical personnel took him to the clubhouse.
Turner was taken to a hospital in Fort Myers, Florida, and treated for soft tissue injuries. According to an Instagram story from his wife, Kourtney, Turner needed 16 stitches, but tests showed no fractures or other concerns. He has since returned home.
Editor's Picks"Thank you to everyone that reached out about Justin and sent prayers," Kourtney wrote in the Instagram story that was later reposted by Justin. "We're home now and he's resting (okay - maybe listening to the replay of the game). 16 stitches and a lot of swelling but we are thanking God for no fractures & clear scans!"
Turner, 38, signed a two-year, $22 million deal with the Red Sox in January after spending the previous nine years with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The veteran was expected to be Boston's primary designated hitter this season while also getting some playing time at first base.
