When does MLB free agency start? What to know about Juan Soto ...
Yankees and Dodgers fans weigh in on World Series winner before Game 3
Which team will win the World Series? Fans weigh in at Yankee Stadium prior to Game 3 on Monday, Oct. 28, 2024.
The 2024 World Series may soon be coming to an end in the Bronx with Game 4 set for Tuesday night.
Following a 4-2 loss in Game 3 to the Los Angeles Dodgers, it's clear the New York Yankees are in deep trouble.
If the Bronx Bombers have any hope of winning a league-best 28th World Series, they would have to become the first team in MLB history to come back from down 3-0 and be victorious in the next four straight games to win the World Series.
In fact, each of the last nine teams that took a 3-0 lead in the Fall Classic went on to sweep their opponent.
Regardless of when (or if) the Dodgers make quick work of the Yankees and sweep them, or the Bronx Bombers pull off the improbable in a Game 7 on Saturday night in Los Angeles, free agency is looming.
That's huge news for both New York teams, with Yankees outfielder Juan Soto and Mets first baseman Pete Alonso two of the biggest names entering free agency.
Here's what you need to know about when 2024 MLB free agency begins:

2024 MLB free agency start date
Every year, MLB players without contracts for the following season become free agents the day after the final game of the World Series. However, players such as Soto and Alonso cannot sign with a new organization until 5 p.m. ET five days following the end of the Fall Classic.
If the World Series does in fact end Tuesday with the Dodgers sweeping the Yankees, the earliest the two New York sluggers could sign with different teams is Sunday, Nov. 3 at 5 p.m. ET.
This short, less-than-a-week window provides teams the opportunity to talk to the agents representing the players who are free agents to try and re-sign them before the player can officially sign with a new team less than a week later.
This five-day window will be crucial for the Yankees and Mets, who will look to retain and keep their star players in house with both organizations making deep runs this postseason.
