Several JCPenney stores will close in the coming months, company officials said on Wednesday.
Though a company spokesperson did not indicate how many or which stores would be closing, they indicated that the company did not plan to "significantly reduce" its store count.
Last month, JCPenney announced it had partnered with fashion retailer Forever 21 to create a new company called Catalyst Brands. The merger also includes Brooks Brothers, Aéropostale, Lucky Brand, Nautica and Eddie Bauer. Catalyst Brands is expected to open 1,800 store locations and hire 60,000 employees. The JCPenney spokesperson said the store closures are not related to the Catalyst Brands merger.
Here's what to know about the JCPenney stores closing and any possible Arizona impacts.

Macy's will close its Mesa location as part of a plan to close 65 stores across the country. Kohl's will close 27 underperforming stores nationwide.
Joann announced in February that it will be closing 500 of its approximately 850 stores nationwide. The new comes after it shuttered eight stores in January.
