By almost any measurement, Iowa State football’s 2024 season has been a resounding success.
With a 29-21 victory last Saturday over Kansas State in "Farmageddon," the Cyclones wrapped up the regular season with a 10-2 record, marking the first time in program history they've won 10 games in a season.
The accomplishments may not be done quite yet.

On Saturday, coach Matt Campbell’s team will face off against No. 13 Arizona State in the Big 12 championship game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. A win there would send Iowa State, the No. 16 team in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll, to the College Football Playoff, where it would be one of 12 teams competing for a national title.
While bigger goals like the playoff remain on the table for the Cyclones, a conference championship would be quite the achievement for the program.
After all, it hasn’t happened very often.

Has Iowa State ever won the Big 12 championship?
When the Cyclones take the field Saturday against Arizona State, they’ll be aiming to make history.
Iowa State has never won a Big 12 championship in football, going back to the league’s formation in 1996.
Saturday will mark the Cyclones’ second appearance in the Big 12 championship game. The first came during the pandemic-altered 2020 season, when an 8-2 Iowa State team featuring future NFL players like Brock Purdy and Breece Hall fell to Oklahoma 27-21 in the conference title game.
That Cyclones team went on to beat Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl for its ninth win of the season, tying a program single-season record.

Has Iowa State ever won a conference championship?
Though a Big 12 title has proven to be elusive, Iowa State does have a conference championship in its history — multiple ones, in fact.
The Cyclones have claimed two conference championships in program history, which came in 1911 and 1912 while they were members of the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association, a forerunner of what became known as the Big Eight Conference.
