FA Cup final: Chelsea vs. Liverpool live updates and highlights

76th min: Alexander-Arnold has been influential in attack, but the English star has now come up big at the back, too, sliding in to deny the jinky Pulisic another shooting position.

74th min: A switch for Liverpool in central midfield, as intriguingly Keita is off for James Milner.

69th min: As in the Carabao Cup final, Pulisic is seeing plenty of presentable scoring opportunities. This time, the American is set up by James from the right, and puts his low effort wide of the right post. Similarly, Diaz has another shot of his own at the other end, his a more speculative 20-yard curling effort which he can't quite keep down.

66th min: To be expected, Kovacic isn't able to finish the game. He's replaced in midfield by the similarly half-fit Kante.

63rd min: The Merseyside giants have wrestled back control in the last few minutes, with Alexander-Arnold looking dangerous, getting beyond Alonso with ease. He can't make anything of a pair of corners, but Klopp's men are now setting the tempo once more, and the travelling supporters are certainly feeling it.

60th min: Mane, who has been fantastic in the central role all afternoon, collects the ball in acres of space and tees up Jota inside the area, whose right-footed effort across goal goes wide.

55th min: Chelsea's wing-backs almost make a connection of their own, as James swings it towards the outstretched boot of Alonso, who can't quite make contact, as the chances begin to rack up in this half.

52nd min: The roar is back for the travelling Liverpool fans behind Mendy's net, with Diaz's long-range effort zipping just wide.

51st min: The Reds get a foothold in proceedings with a brilliant cross from Alexander-Arnold, who finds fellow full-back Robertson, but the Scot can't convert from close range.

48th min: And now Alonso hits the bar from a free-kick! Liverpool need to wake up, and fast.

47th min: A big save from Alisson! Pulisic is in yet again, but his central effort is stopped by the Brazilian. Very promising start from Chelsea.

46th min: The second period is underway here, and it begins with Chelsea on the front foot. The ball arrives from the right to Alonso at the back post, whose effort goes just wide!

???? Can Liverpool secure #EmiratesFACup success without their star striker? ????

HALF-TIME: Goalless at the break. Chelsea will be the happier of the two sides, after Klopp's men failed to make the most of their fantastic early pressure, particularly through Diaz, who was electric in his buildup but also somewhat wasteful. Perhaps the bigger concern will be over Salah, though, after the Egyptian King was forced off through injury partway through that half.

46th min: At the other end, Pulisic delicately dinks the ball through to Lukaku, whose left-footed strike goes over. The Belgian has struggled to make an impact in this first half.

45th min: Jota's first big chance of the game goes begging! Mane starts the move by dispossessing Mount deep, with the play eventually moving out left, where a ball into the Portuguese is poked over with the outside of his boot.

42nd min: No real chances for either side in the last few minutes as the game reaches more of a settled state, following the three breaks for injuries which disrupted a frenetic start here in the capital.

34th min: Mount has really been looking dangerous in the last quarter-hour, and the England international again gets Pulisic in on goal, but Konate denies the Chelsea No.10.

32nd min: More injury concern for Liverpool, though, with Salah forced off through injury! Seemingly a muscle problem, given it was not through a collision. That could have massive implications just two weeks before the Champions League final. Diogo Jota is on.

30th min: Liverpool fans can breathe a huge sigh of relief, with Alisson back to his feet.

27th min: After a spell of light Liverpool pressure, Mount bursts forward to play in the onrushing Alonso for another golden opportunity, but Alisson comes up big to deny the Spaniard fantastically. However, the Reds' goalkeeper has hurt himself in the process.

23rd min: Big chance for the Londoners! Pulisic finds himself open in the centre of the box after English duo James and Mount break down the right. Warning signs for Liverpool, after failing to capitalise on their early domination.

17th min: Thiago fouls Kovacic on the right edge of Liverpool's box, giving Chelsea a free-kick in a promising position. Alonso over it, but sails hopelessly into the arms of Alisson.

16th min: Chelsea's first meaningful spell of possession ends in Pulisic flashing a shot wide, after what was a clear Lukaku handball.

13th min: After an interruption due to a Chalobah injury, the game resumes in exactly the same way. Diaz played in, this time by a great Mane pass, and his shot is blocked.

8th min: What a ball from Alexander-Arnold! The full-back wonderfully plays in Diaz cross-field with the outside of his boot, but Mendy produces a big save. One-way traffic here so far.

???? Edouard Mendy’s early save to keep out Luis Diaz means he’s already made one more stop in the #EmiratesFACup final than in his last appearance vs. #LUFC in the Premier League! ????

7th min: Strong work from Mane unleashes Diaz again down the left, and again the Colombian's ball into the middle is teasing but eludes two teammates.

6th min: Jorginho is down after a ball from Salah strikes him in the head from close range. It was during another threatening attack from Liverpool, who look in the mood.

3rd min: James vs. Diaz looks like it has the makings of an intriguing battle on Liverpool's left flank. The Chelsea man had come out on top in the early knockings, but Diaz then tees up the Reds' first chance of the game, with his cross agonisingly unable to be met by Thiago.

KICK-OFF: We're underway! Chelsea in all yellow, Liverpool in their traditional red. Deafening atmosphere from the Merseyside giants' fans in the buildup.

10 mins to KO: "Abide with Me" is being sung, the Liverpool fans are drowning it out with their chants, the Chelsea flags are waving... we're nearly there now!

15 mins to KO: In the programme here at Wembley, American superstar Christian Pulisic - who scored in the 2020 FA Cup final loss to Arsenal - spoke of the importance of inspiring those in his homeland. Pulisic said: "I'm hoping kids back home in the US can watch people like myself growing up in America, and I'm able to come over here and play at the highest level. So that's why I always want to make a good impression and feel like I'm representing my roots."

30 mins to KO: Liverpool and Chelsea have met once before in the FA Cup final, a decade ago. Ramires and Didier Drogba ensured Chelsea were the victors that day, with Kenny Dalglish's men unable to fightback despite a second-half Andy Carroll goal.

Expect goals! ⚽️

???? #CFC and #LFC have met 1️⃣1️⃣ times before in the #EmiratesFACup - Chelsea have won on 7️⃣ occasions, including a 2-1 victory in the 2012 final.

40 mins to KO: Mateo Kovacic has made an unexpectedly speedy recovery to be back in the starting XI here today. He'll be without partner N'Golo Kante, who is only fit enough for the bench, with Jorginho starting. They'll take on a Liverpool midfield of Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and Thiago, following the injury in midweek to key man Fabinho.

50 mins to KO: In addition to the Carabao Cup stalemate, there was nothing to separate the rivals in their two league games this season, either. Chelsea looked very strong in a 1-1 draw in August, until a Reece James red card and Mo Salah penalty clipped their wings. In January, the Blues produced a comeback at home to draw 2-2.

1 hour to KO: Chelsea's lineup is out now too - and Kai Havertz's absence from the squad entirely is the big story. Romelu Lukaku starts up top.

1 hour 20 mins to KO: For Chelsea, Liverpool represents a huge step up from their previous opposition in the FA Cup this term. The Blues progressed past Chesterfield Town, Plymouth Argyle, Luton Town and Middlesbrough, before taking on Premier League opposition in a semi-final win over Crystal Palace.

The Reds also faced a handful of relatively simple tasks before the mammoth Man City clash, taking on Shrewsbury Town, Cardiff City, Norwich City and Nottingham Forest.

1 hour 35 mins to KO: Liverpool, still hunting that unlikely quadruple this season, have enjoyed their previous two trips to Wembley in 2022: they beat Manchester City here 3-2 in the FA Cup semi-finals, having won the EFL Cup via a shootout against Chelsea in February.

Trent Alexander-Arnold told Liverpool's website that the win over City "felt like a home game", adding: "Obviously when you get there you understand they are the big games and you've earned it, so [it's] an outstanding place for us to be as a club."

1 hour 50 mins to KO: Liverpool prevailed on penalties in March's Carabao Cup final to take the first part of what they hope will be a historic quadruple, though last weekend's dropped points against Tottenham Hotspur have hugely dampened hopes for the Premier League dream.

Victory today would mark Jurgen Klopp's first taste of glory in the FA Cup, with the Merseyside giants last lifting the famous old trophy back in 2006. Chelsea's recent record in the FA Cup is stronger, having won it five times since their rivals' last success.

The Blues are somewhat in a state of flux following Roman Abramovich's recent sale of the club to Todd Boehly, but Thomas Tuchel has coped admirably amid the chaos. This latest showpiece against Liverpool marks Tuchel's sixth final in a year.

2 hours to KO: Welcome to The Sporting News' live coverage from Wembley, as Liverpool take on Chelsea. The Reds are looking to end a 30-year FA Cup drought in North London, with their previous two victories being the first (2001) and last (2006) finals played at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium, while Wembley was being rebuilt.
