Only one more sleep away from Election Day.

The race for the Oval Office is tight, with national polls showing Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump neck-and-neck. In Florida, it's a whole other story as Trump leads over Harris.

Here is what the polls and odds say now with one day left until Election Day.

When will the results of the election be announced?

Not on Election Day, at least not the official results of the presidential election.

Ballot counting has never been completed on Election Day in any state at any point in the nation’s history, David Becker, executive director of the nonpartisan Center for Election Innovation & Research, told USA TODAY.

When are election results announced? How it played out in prior presidential elections

Most of the results the public gets by election night are from that day's in-person voting and early in-person voting, along with any preprocessed mail-in ballots in states that allow that to happen. This year, local and state certification deadlines range from two days after Nov. 5 to more than a month.

Things to keep in mind about polling

The margin of error describes how accurately we can count on the survey results being representative of the entire population, USA TODAY reports.

When a candidate's lead is "inside" the margin of error, it is considered a "statistical tie," according to Pew Research Center.

Pew has also found the majority of pollsters have changed their methods since the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections, where Trump's performance was significantly underestimated.

Who is leading in the polls and favored by the odds now?

Polls and odds are constantly changing. These numbers were reflected as of Monday, Nov. 4, 2024, at 1 p.m.
