LAS VEGAS — Kansas basketball survived a thriller on Tuesday in Las Vegas against Duke, hanging on to win 75-72.

The No. 1 Jayhawks started off strong in this matchup against the No. 10 Blue Devils. However, Duke was able to come back and make this a battle down the stretch. Kansas had to overcome the fact one of its stars, Hunter Dickinson, was ejected in the second half.

Kansas basketball schedule: Dates, times and TV channels for Jayhawks’ 2024-25 season

Here is what happened:

It was a battle before Hunter Dickinson's ejection, and it has remained one after. At this point, the Jayhawks have a three-point lead with about three and a half minutes left in the second half. Although Duke appeared to have the momentum following the ejection, Kansas has been able to make enough plays to not relinquish that entirely.

Kansas will have to go the rest of the way without Hunter Dickinson. During this recent stretch of play, it was determined he committed a flagrant two foul and was ejected. The Jayhawks will need Flory Bidunga to step up.

Duke has relied upon its 3-point shooting much more than Kansas has so far, and the Blue Devils are shooting the ball well from behind the arc. But Kansas is still up six points with about 12 minutes left in the second half. The Jayhawks have been able to shoot it well from behind the arc as well, and also have the advantage in points in the paint.

Duke at last took a lead again early in the second half, but Kansas has reclaimed the momentum. The Jayhawks are on a 9-0 run that forced a Blue Devils timeout that led to this break in the action. Duke hasn’t scored in more than two minutes.

Duke is on a 10-0 run now, and trails by just a couple of points with a little less than four minutes left in the first half. Kansas has led for almost 15 minutes so far tonight, while Duke has led for less than a minute. However, it looks like the momentum is all on the Blue Devils' side at this point.

Neither team has taken very good care of the ball so far. Each team has seven turnovers, with Kansas scoring nine points off of those and Duke scoring six. It's something to follow moving forward.

Kansas' shots aren't falling as regularly as they did to start the game. It's allowed Duke to remain within striking distance here in the first half. But they still lead by nine points with a bit less than eight minutes left in the first half.

Kansas is dipping into its bench early, as it looks to maintain a comfortable lead. Even Rakease Passmore is getting some time here, as the freshman guard continues to be a part of the Jayhawks' rotation. The crowd seems to be pretty even, but Kansas fans have had more to celebrate so far.

After going down 3-2 early, Kansas has gone on an 11-0 run to lead by 10 with a little less than 16 minutes left in the first half. Hunter Dickinson has five points and a couple of rebounds already, to go along with an assist. Duke star Cooper Flagg has yet to be much of a factor for the Blue Devils, with quality defense not just from the Jayhawks' KJ Adams but the team as a whole.
