1999 – 25 years ago
- Post Bulletin golf columnist Greg Peterson says The Classic on Gull Lake in Brainerd might be the finest golf course in Minnesota. The course combines the beauty of the north woods and a challenging yet playable layout.
- The Lake City Yacht Club and Lake City Marina will host an open house to let people try sailing and to raise money for the Leukemia Society of America and Sail America.
1974 – 50 years ago
- City workers are preparing Rochester’s two public pools, Silver Lake and Soldiers Field, which will open this weekend.
- Country music star Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton performed at the Mayo Civic Auditorium.
- The biggest assault against cigarette smoking in Minnesota to date will be tackled this fall as organizers are planning a “Don’t Smoke Day” on October 7.
1949 – 75 years ago
- Cattle lined both sides of the street in Lewiston during the annual Southeastern Minnesota Guernsey Parish Show. Programs were scheduled all day, including a parade at noon.
- The 1939 graduating class of Peterson High School held a reunion, and all 12 members of the class and their spouses spent the day together.
- Merle Prescher was elected commander of the Elgin American Legion Post.
1924 – 100 years ago
- Dr. A. F. Kilbourne has been the Rochester State Hospital superintendent for 35 years since succeeding Dr. J. E. Bowers. In an interview with The Daily Post and Record, he praised his staff for caring for the patients, from the head nurse to the cooks.
- The public is invited to a luncheon organized and prepared by the college girls of the Y.W.C.A. With funds from the luncheon, the group hopes to send delegates to the Y.W.C.A. convention at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
- Dr. C. H. Mayo will leave this evening to attend a meeting of the American Medical Association in Chicago. From there he will travel to Cleveland to give an address during the opening of a new hospital.
