The Memphis Grizzlies and shooting guard Desmond Bane have agreed to a five-year, $207 million max contract extension, league sources confirmed to The Athletic on Saturday. ESPN first reported the news. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Bane joins Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. as Grizzlies players with long-term contracts.
  • The 25-year-old averaged 21.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game in 2022-23.
  • The Grizzlies finished with a 51-31 record in 2022-23, losing in the first round of the playoffs to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Backstory

Bane entered the league in 2020, when the Celtics selected him with the 30th pick. Following the selection, the Celtics traded Bane to the Grizzlies for a future pick.

Through 202 career NBA games, Bane has posted averages of 16.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. He made the NBA All-Rookie team during the 2020-21 season.
