Dengue Fever
The C.D.C. has issued a warning to doctors regarding the spread of dengue fever, a painful mosquito-borne disease that is on the rise in many parts of the world. Health officials are urging physicians to be vigilant for new cases of dengue fever in the United States.
What is Dengue Fever?
Dengue fever is a viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes that causes flu-like symptoms, including high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, joint and muscle pain, rash, and mild bleeding. In severe cases, dengue fever can lead to dengue hemorrhagic fever, a potentially fatal complication characterized by severe bleeding, organ failure, and shock.
Prevention and Treatment
There is currently no specific treatment for dengue fever, so prevention is key. The best way to prevent dengue fever is to avoid mosquito bites by using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants, and using mosquito nets. If you suspect you have dengue fever, seek medical attention immediately.
