Tornadoes, Severe Weather Hit Texas, Louisiana



- Hundreds of thousands were without power in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
- The LSU campus in Shreveport was damaged.
- Wind gusts up to 80 mph were reported.

Tornadoes and high winds caused damage and widespread power outages Thursday in Texas and Louisiana, including Dallas-Fort Worth and Shreveport.
The danger of severe weather continued through the night, with the highest threat from northeast Texas into parts of Louisiana and Arkansas.

(9:38 p.m. ET) Shreveport Business Owner: 'I'm In A State Of Shock'Benee Irwin has helped other people with insurance claims for 34 years. Now, her office in Shreveport, Louisiana, is destroyed.
"I wanted to cry. I’m in a state of shock," Irwin told The Weather Channel's Justin Michaels. “My first thought was. 'Where are we going to find a place to work so we can help other people who might have experienced damage?”
(9:33 p.m. ET) Severe Weather Could Spread To The Tennessee Valley FridayFrom weather.com digital meteorologist Jonathan Belles: Winter Storm Quest will continue to push a squall line eastward through the night and into the Southeast on Friday. The storm will take a track through the Midwest, meaning that the warm air that has fed storms so far will gradually move northward with the system.
Parts of the Southeast northward to near the Ohio Valley may see some severe thunderstorms Friday and Friday evening. The greatest threat for severe weather is where you see the darker colors below, centered around the Tennessee Valley. Damaging thunderstorm wind gusts and tornadoes are possible.
Widespread gusty winds are expected east of the Mississippi River on Friday as Quest intensifies as it moves north and east.


More than 1,000 flights to or from either Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport or Dallas Love Field were canceled or delayed today, according to online tracker FlightAware.com.
(8:46 p.m. ET) Dallas-Fort Worth Power Outages JumpThere are now more than 348,000 power outages in Texas, according to PowerOutage.us. More than half of those are in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, where storms moved through with winds up to 80 mph.
(8:25 p.m. ET) Damage Reported At LSU Campus In Shreveport, LouisianaHomes and businesses were damaged by a tornado earlier this evening, according to the Shreveport Times. Impacted areas include the Shreveport campus of Louisiana State University, the Twelve Oaks neighborhood, a supermarket and a gas station.
(7:38 p.m. ET) 170,000+ Without Electricity In Texas, LouisianaMore than 168,000 power outages are being reported in Texas, according to PowerOutage.us. The bulk of those are in Tarrant County, which includes the cities of Forth Worth and Arlington. About 8,000 are being reported in Louisiana.

(7:12 P.M. ET) Semi Blown Over On Interstate 20Video showed a semi laying on its side on I-20 near Weatherford, about 30 miles west of Fort Worth. Gusts as high as 80 mph have been reported from a line of storms moving through the area.
(6:56 p.m. ET) Tornado Seen In Drone VideoA tornado touched down near Linden, Texas. The scene was captured in video shot by a drone. There were no immediate reports on any damage.
(6:52 p.m. ET) Dozens Of Reports of Severe WeatherThere are already multiple reports of severe weather across parts of Texas and Oklahoma, including hail, high winds and tornadoes.


Video posted to social media showed the storm moving through. There is no immediate word on any possible damage. Talco is in Titus County in northeast Texas.
(5:55 p.m. ET) Possible Tornado Damage Reported East Of DallasDamage from a likely tornado is being reported in Pickton, about 75 miles east of Dallas in Hopkins County.
(5:28 p.m. ET) Wind Tips Semi Near Abilene, TexasA semi-trailer tipped over in high winds in near Abilene in Taylor County, according to storm reports tracked by the National Weather Service. It fell onto a pickup truck. There are also reports of trees and power lines down nearby.
(5:18 p.m. ET) Hail Fog Hangs Over Denton County, TexasHail is being reported in several spots in central and northwest Texas. Hail fog form shortly after a thunderstorm. It happens when cold hail meets warm, moist air near the ground. As the hail accumulates, it cools the air just above it. That results in fog.
Video from Sanger, Texas, on the north side of the Dallas-Fort Worth metro, showed a thick soup of it early this evening.
(5 p.m. ET) Storms Growing Stronger In Texas

From weather.com digital meteorologist Jonathan Belles: The severe weather forecast has not changed much since this morning. Storms will grow stronger in Texas through the afternoon and into the evening, producing large hail, some tornadoes and damaging winds as they grow. By the time storms reach east Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana by later this evening, they should be more likely to produce damaging wind gusts, but several tornadoes and some hail are also possible.
These storms will continue to march eastward through the overnight hours with the potential of severe weather and flooding rains in the Lower Mississippi Valley. Heavy rain may become possible as far north as southern Illinois and southern Indiana by daybreak Friday.
