DALLAS — Ready or not, severe weather in true Texas spring fashion is expected across Dallas-Fort Worth and our surrounding region Thursday.

Storms are expected to develop in North Texas on Thursday afternoon and produce potentially severe weather through the evening hours.

School Impacts

Aledo ISD: All after school practices are canceled; if your child is in a competition in or out of district, the sponsor/coach will communicate any changes w/you.

Allen ISD: Buses and dismissal times could be delayed depending on the location and severity of afternoon storms. Please watch for communication from your campus regarding possible changes to dismissal times. In the event of severe weather and/or a tornado warning that occurs during dismissal time, students will not be released from the campus and instead moved to the pre-designated safety locations inside the building.

Arlington ISD: The Arlington ISD will take all appropriate weather-related actions based on the timing of [Thursday's] storms. Schools practice weather drills regularly so that if students and staff have to take cover, they are prepared to do so.

Birdville ISD: Due to the forecast for severe weather for later today, all after-school and evening activities have been canceled in BISD. Staff will remain on campus after school until all students are picked up. Please check with your campus regarding the rescheduling.

Carroll ISD: Due to the anticipated severe weather, all after-school and evening activities scheduled for today, March 2, are canceled. We will continue to evaluate weather impacts.

Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD: Due to anticipated storms, all after school activities will be canceled today, March 2. Campuses will dismiss at normal times & buses will run regular times. Parents are asked to pick up students ASAP. After the Bell, CDA & YMCA will remain open until children are picked up.

Castleberry ISD: After School Activities Canceled.

Cedar Hill ISDAll Cedar Hill ISD After School Activities are canceled for Thursday, March 2, 2023 due to the expected inclement weather.

Dallas ISD: We will continue monitoring weather conditions forecast for tomorrow and will share any necessary updates. We also encourage our families to check the district's website and social media channels for up-to-date information. 

Dallas ISD officials told WFAA all after school activities were canceled.

DeSoto ISD: Due to the forecasted inclement weather this afternoon, all DeSoto ISD after-school activities and programs are canceled for Thursday, Mar 2, 2023. We appreciate your cooperation during this time. Please stay safe and travel with caution.

Duncanville ISD: All afterschool programs are canceled, including Right At School care, today, March 2, 2023, due to predicted severe weather.

Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD: Out of an abundance of caution, the district is canceling all after school activities, unless otherwise specified by the activity coach, teacher or sponsor.

Fort Worth ISD: The Fort Worth ISD (FWISD) has canceled all after-school activities scheduled for Thursday, March 2, due to inclement weather conditions, prioritizing the safety of students and staff.

Frisco ISD: UPDATE: All after school and evening activities scheduled for today are canceled.

Shelter-in-Place involves moving students, staff and visitors to the safest possible pre-designated locations, which varies by campus. Any parents in vehicles queued for arrival or dismissal will be invited inside to seek shelter. Due to time considerations and urgent protective actions needed during a weather emergency, parents will not be able to check students out or join their students’ designated shelter areas. Once the weather emergency has passed and the severe weather warning has expired, the campus will return to normal operations. Bus routes may be disrupted during severe weather warnings. Buses will not complete routes until a severe weather warning has expired and danger has passed. Delayed delivery of students is possible once normal bus operations have resumed. If buses are already running when a severe weather warning is issued, drivers are trained to seek the nearest shelter area. This includes field trips and routine student transportation, and the District will provide notices when buses are delayed due to severe weather.

Garland ISDParents, please be advised that all fine arts and athletic after school practices & activities are cancelled due to anticipated severe weather. Thank you for your cooperation.

Granbury ISD: All Granbury ISD after school activities are canceled for today, Thurs, March 2 (exception of scheduled high school athletic games). The activity bus/night shuttle is canceled. We will provide any updates from the athletic department regarding game cancellations.

Parents, we are watching weather closely, if after care needs to be canceled due to weather that decision will come later as we get more information.

Grand Prairie ISD: Due to the possibility of severe weather today, March 2, 2023, all GPISD after-school activities have been canceled and evening classes at Crosswinds will be virtual. Beyond the Bell will remain open until all students have been picked up by a parent or guardian.

Grapevine-Colleyville ISD: Due to the forecasted storms in our area later this afternoon and throughout the evening, all GCISD after-school and evening activities scheduled for today, Thursday, March 2, are canceled, including the District’s EDP and after-school tutoring. The ECDC will close at 4:30 p.m.

Greenville ISD: All GISD afternoon and evening activities are canceled All GISD evening activities are canceled including robotics and home athletic events. Please stay safe everyone! 

HEB ISD: Based on tonight's weather forecasts, HEB ISD is canceling all afterschool activities at all schools today, March 2, 2023. Please allow extra time for safe dismissal and safe travel.

Irving ISD: Attention Irving ISD families, The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Irving ISD Administration and Safety and Security are closely monitoring the weather. We plan to proceed with our normal school day and afterschool activities/events will proceed as scheduled. If anything changes, we will provide an update between 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. this afternoon and/or immediately warranting any necessary changes. We encourage you to stay updated through the district's Facebook and Twitter accounts. Thank you for your cooperation as we work together to keep our students and staff safe.

Keller ISD: For the safety of all of our students, families, and employees, all after-school and evening activities scheduled for today, Thursday, March 2, are canceled. For more information, visit kellerisd.net/Weather.

KIPP Texas – DFW: After School Activities Canceled.

Lake Dallas ISD: Due to severe weather in the area, all LDISD after-school activities have been canceled. Buses will run on a regular schedule. 

Lake Worth ISD: Lake Worth ISD is closely monitoring the threat of severe weather later today. Our top priority is the safety of our staff and students. Additional updates will be sent out via SchoolStatus and on social media, as needed. Thank you for your cooperation.

Lancaster ISD: Due to the inclement weather predicted in our area this evening, all after-school activities and athletic events are canceled. All campuses will still dismiss at their regular dismissal time. Please stay alert and safe this evening.

Mansfield ISD: All after school activities have been canceled. 

Mineral Wells ISD: With severe weather arriving this afternoon, MWISD is releasing students early on Thursday. Students will be released at 2:15 p.m. Parents are invited to get their children early.

Northwest ISD: NISD continues to closely monitor local weather based on projections of possible inclement weather. Because of potential weather that may cause unsafe driving conditions, all after-school activities for today, March 2, are canceled or will be rescheduled.

Plano ISD: Our Safety and Security Services Department will communicate with district leadership, campuses, the Transportation Department and all other facilities via a district-wide emergency radio system if necessary. Information may include updates on dismissal, diverting school buses and other actions as needed. Emergency updates may be communicated through the following channels:

Rockwall ISD: All Rockwall ISD after school and evening events, including athletics, are canceled due to the severe storms predicted for this evening. For after school ROCK parents, we encourage you to pick your child as soon as possible. However, please know that ROCK staff will remain with your child until you arrive. 

Richardson ISD: After School Activities Canceled Thursday Due to the forecast of potentially severe weather, all RISD after school activities, practices, games, and events are being canceled for Thursday, March 2.

TCU: There is a potential for severe weather in the Fort Worth area. Storms may develop later this afternoon and into the evening, ahead of a rapidly advancing cold front. Weather can change at any time, so we encourage you to monitor local news reports.

UT Dallas: Because of hazardous weather predicted this evening, UT Dallas is canceling all evening classes and activities today, March 2, beginning at 5 p.m. Any classes or activities that begin before 5 p.m. should end no later than 5:30 p.m. Classes will proceed as usual on Friday, March 3, with all classes, exams and activities resuming.

UNT-Dallas: Due to the inclement weather coming this afternoon, UNT Dallas main campus and UNT Dallas College of Law will be closing today at 3 p.m. All classes starting at 2:30 p.m. or later will be moved to an online/virtual format. Staff members are not expected to work remotely.
