“I have to say, we get a little lucky here, right?”
J.T. O’Sullivan is breaking down Brock Purdy’s game against the Arizona Cardinals and has all sorts of questions about the quarterback’s longest completion of the day, a second-quarter throw Brandon Aiyuk plucks out of the air for 41 yards. As he releases the ball, a Cardinals defensive back is in the spot where the ball lands. That defender never sees the pass; Aiyuk does and adjusts for the catch.
“I think Aiyuk is actually a little surprised that he even throws it,” O’Sullivan says. “I mean, the throw is so bad it’s good, if that makes sense.”
Of course, O’Sullivan also finds plenty to rave about in Purdy’s 20-of-21 performance. At one point he lauds the design — the “beautiful spacing” — of a play that results in a 13-yard pass to tailback Jordan Mason. He also loves how quickly Purdy cycles through his progressions.
“It’s just awesome,” O’Sullivan says. “Left to right: One, two, three — let’s go!”
But it’s not all flowery praise, which is why the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback’s YouTube channel, called The QB School, has become so popular.
