Everything Jon Scheyer Cooper Flagg and Kon Knueppel said after ...

Duke saw five players reach double figures while the defense locked down one of the highest scoring offenses in the ACC as the Blue Devils blew out Pittsburgh on Tuesday night to move to 5-0 in league play.
Freshman Cooper Flagg shook off early foul trouble post his sixth double-double of the year with 19 points and 10 rebounds while Kon Knueppel (17) and Khaman Maluach (11), junior Tyrese Proctor (13) and graduate Sion James (10) also eclsiped the 10 point mark.
Duke held Pittsburgh to season lows for points (47), field goals made (18), field goal percentage (.310) and total rebounds (26) and turned a relatively close contest into a laugher, ending the game on an 18-0 run over the final eight minutes of action.
Following the victory, head coach Jon Scheyer and his team met the media to discuss the team's ninth consecutive victory.
Here's what they said...
DUKE HEAD COACH JON SCHEYER
Opening Statement
"I thought it was a great win. A great night. Ton of respect for Pitt. I think it's crazy that they're not ranked, with what they've done this season. Jeff [Capel] and I know each other really well, and he's an amazing coach. Offensively, they made us do some different things we haven't done, because they're so explosive. They've been averaging 84 points a game. For us, we ended up switching a lot, trying to force a one-on-one, although they have really good one-on-one players. The story tonight was our collective defense. To hold them to 47 points is terrific. The job that Cooper [Flagg] did in the second half, he is so competitive, and he brings out a lot of good stuff from his teammates and for our team. To close the game on an 18-0 run was big time. I'm really proud of our team. It's good to be back in person. It's much better than watching on TV. I'm happy they allowed me to come back. Good win tonight. We needto keep building."
On Khaman Maluach's defense and the team's different defensive switching:
"I think it speaks to the level of respect we have for Pitt to do something different. It's not like our defense has been broken, but our positional size and versatility allows us to do some different things. Khaman [Maluach] is a little bit of a unicorn, right? You want to keep him at the rim to protect, but we've known from the beginning, he can move his feet too. Even if you get by him as a guard, even if you get a step, you still have a 7'2" guy that can move, and has timing, that's coming to chase after your shot. I thought he did a great job."
On Kon Knueppel's performance and what he brings to the team:
"Kon [Knueppel] is just a complete player. Speaking of defense, he guards his position really well. At his size, 6'7", he's guarding everybody. He can move his feet. I thought he had timely threes, because in the first half we missed some good looks and we couldn't get separation. I thought his threes were important, and then his play-making has always been really good for us. It didn't translate with assists tonight, but he just knows how to play the game and make the right play."
On Duke out-rebounding Pitt by 15:
"We actually don't judge it based on 41-26. It's the percentage of what you're getting is how we judge it. Pitt missed a lot of shots, and it's important to defensively rebound them. Our offensive rebounds were equal, but I thought we forced more missed shots and we got them. That's going to be the key. I thought we did a good job, even though a couple went over our heads. We lost a couple, but for the most part, I thought we did a great job of just collectively being in there to rebound. Sion [James] had some big ones in the first half too."
FRESHMAN GUARD/FORWARD COOPER FLAGG
"I thought it was a great scout, great game plan for us coming in. I thought we stuck to it the whole game. They were getting it going early a little bit, hitting some tough shots, but we knew that that's what they were going to come in and try to do – hit a lot of contested, tough shots. We just stuck to the game plan and I thought it worked out really well."
On Duke's defense and how they held Pittsburgh to a season-low 31% field goal percentage:
"I think just sticking to the game plan and forcing [Pittsburgh] into a lot of tough, contested shots. They're a team that likes to go one-on-one a lot. They've got three really good guards that can get a shot off on anybody, so it was just about stressing the game plan, being in the gaps, and just helping each other out, and having five guys guard the ball."
When asked if the Pittsburgh win and post-game celebration here at Cameron last season provided any motivation for this year's team:
"We definitely heard about them jumping on the [media table] and talking to our fans a little bit, but honestly, we're just such a competitive group that we were already really excited and ready for this game. A big matchup with a really good team, we didn't need any of the extra motivation."
On his monster dunk in the second half:
"I got the steal, hit a quick burst, the first defender was still coming toward their basket, kind of got around him, pushed it out and went and made a play. I was kind of mad at myself for a stupid foul [on the previous play]. It was definitely a little anger, and I took it out on the rim. To be honest, I kind of felt like as soon as I jumped, my mind kind of went blank and it just all happened really fast."
When asked if he had a more aggressive mindset early in the second half:
"For me personally, coming into halftime, I felt like I needed to get myself a little more involved. I felt like, in the first half with two fouls, I was floating a little bit too much. I told my teammates I needed to get them open more, get them some better looks, and create some advantages for them. I feel like I did a better job of that right away [in the second half] and that opened some stuff up for me."
FRESHMAN GUARD/FORWARD KON KNUEPPEL
"We got to the last media [timeout] at 7:59 [remaining in the game], and it was 58-47, and I think the final was 76-47, so they didn't score the last eight minutes. I thought that was pretty awesome. It feels good to dominate a team like that down the stretch.
People might think of us as an offensive team, but we definitely think of ourselves as a defensive team and we take great pride on that end of the floor."
"I think we fed off of Sion's [James] energy. He was awesome tonight. Mason [Gillis] coming off the bench and giving us good minutes. But Cooper's the best player on our team. Everybody knows that, so when you've got a guy flying around like that and being as competitive as he is, it definitely gets us going."
On Cooper Flagg's posterizing dunk in the second half:
"It's probably the best dunk I've ever seen in my life in person. He's got those long arms that make his dunks look so much cooler. Sometimes it might be the angle on that rim, but man, he just soared over that guy today and it was awesome to watch."
