Twitter reacts to Bears trading for Steelers WR Chase Claypool
The Bears are trading for Steelers WR Chase Claypool, giving Justin Fields a new weapon. As you can imagine, fans had plenty to say:

The Chicago Bears have made a splash ahead of the NFL trade deadline in acquiring receiver Chase Claypool from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It’s important to note that Chicago is sending their own 2023 second-round pick to Pittsburgh for Claypool, not the second-round selection they acquired from the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for linebacker Roquan Smith.

The Bears landed a playmaker at receiver in Claypool, who gives quarterback Justin Fields a big-bodied, vertical threat in the passing game.

As you can imagine, NFL fans had plenty to say about the Bears’ big move. While Chicago’s second-round pick is a hefty price for Claypool, Bears fans are excited that GM Ryan Poles is choosing to invest in Fields — and that starts with helping his development this season instead of just waiting for 2023.

The #Bears winning or losing 42-35 every week is going to take some time getting used to!

I'm old enough to remember when some were upset that the Bears drafted TE Cole Kmet over WR Chase Claypool in the 2020 draft.

Now the college teammates are NFL teammates.

— Adam Jahns (@adamjahns) November 1, 2022

Not as big of a fan of the Chase Claypool trade if the #Bears are giving up their own second-round pick.

That's probably going to be a very high pick when it's all said and done. I still generally support trading for a young talented WR for Justin Fields to throw to, though.

— Jacob Infante (@jacobinfante24) November 1, 2022

With adding Chase Claypool and having N'Keal Harry on the roster, the #Bears now have some size at the WR position.

— Jarrett Payton (@paytonsun) November 1, 2022

Chase Claypool might not be a true No. 1 — he's never had a 1,000 season — but he's a true upgrade to the Bears' receiving corps for QB Justin Fields.

— Adam Jahns (@adamjahns) November 1, 2022

Chase Claypool is EXACTLY the kind of multifaceted X-WR the #Bears have needed in their offense since Allen Robinson left (if not earlier). This is huge news!

He doesn’t come without baggage, but he’s a much better fit for their offense than available FAs were. I’m in.

— Robert Schmitz (@robertkschmitz) November 1, 2022

I love the #Bears trade for Chase Claypool. He's a real-deal X WR, that will pair well with the QB1.

— Lester A. Wiltfong Jr. (@wiltfongjr) November 1, 2022

Chase Claypool had 32 catches for 311 yards this season, which would make him second on the #Bears by a span of 18 catches and 164 yards. He's had Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett throwing him the ball — and a crowded receivers' room. Those numbers could skyrocket here.

— Patrick Finley (@patrickfinley) November 1, 2022

Hey, #Bears fans, please remember this:

Chase Claypool already has two years of experience under his belt.

He is likely better than what Chicago could’ve had late in the 2nd round.

He can help this team and Justin Fields RIGHT NOW.

Gutsy move from Ryan Poles, but I like it.

— Chris Maltby (@ChrisMaltbyBD) November 1, 2022

You have to assume the Bears plan to pay Chase Claypool as a longterm foundational piece.

Can they franchise tag? I'm assuming that would be steep.

— Greg Braggs Jr. (@GBraggsJr23) November 1, 2022

probably an overpay for Chase Claypool

that said, he's a beautiful fit with Justin Fields as a big-bodied receiver who can catch the deep ball. LOVE that the Bears are investing in their quarterback.

Chase ClaypoolDarnell MooneyJaxon Smith-Njigba

Spend big money on the o-line and defense. Fill more needs through the draft.

The Bears might be cooking.

— dave (@runbackdave) November 1, 2022

Bears really traded for Chase Claypool?! King Poles dealing.

— Khari Thompson (@kdthompson5) November 1, 2022

I am for the Chicago Bears giving Justin Fields extra help. This trade for Chase Claypool does that.

I wish it wasn’t their own second rounder but it is what it is. Keep developing QB1 first and foremost

— Vinnie Parise (@VinnieParise) November 1, 2022

The Bears basically traded a 25 year old 2x All-Pro LB for Chase Claypool…

What.

— Thomas R. Petersen (@thomasrp93) November 1, 2022

I promise you Chase Claypool would be a better add than any rookie WR Bears draft in the second round of 2023.

Price maybe a little steep, but don't hate it by any means.

— Blake (@SoldierFieldBlg) November 1, 2022

Chase Claypool is 6'4, 238 pounds, and ran a 4.42 40. Those are some elite physical tools, and exactly what the Bears needed in the WR room.

— Ricky O'Donnell (@SBN_Ricky) November 1, 2022

I freaking love Chase Claypool. One of my favorite WRs in the NFL. What an unbelievable get for the Bears. Perfect weapon for Justin Fields!

— Faizan Qurashi (@FaizanQurashi) November 1, 2022

I like Chase Claypool. And I like that Fields is getting a WR with upside. The Bears gave up Roquan for 1 full year of Claypool plus a 5th-rd pick (and sent the better 2nd-rd pick to PIT). Again, I like Claypool, but the value Poles got out of those 2 moves doesn't excite me.

— Flo Ottis (@flo_ottis) November 1, 2022

A second-round pick isn't cheap for Chase Claypool. But paying a little extra to have a veteran outside WR to help Justin Fields' development in 2023 is worth it for #Bears. Plus they just received a RD2 in the Roquan Smith trade

I really like what Chicago GM Ryan Poles is doing

— Chris Trapasso (@ChrisTrapasso) November 1, 2022

Chase Claypool is an extremely unique talent. Rare size/spd combo who offers the #DaBears offense something different than anything Mooney, etc., can provide. He's not only a great talent, he's also a great FIT for what the #Bears need right now.

— Bryan Perez (@BryanPerezNFL) November 1, 2022

BEARS TRADE FOR CHASE CLAYPOOL.

ryan poles doesn’t make this move if he didn’t believe in justin fields.

great move by ryan poles.

— RAE’s Juke Joint Podcast (@RAEsJukeJoint) November 1, 2022

Chase Claypool fills a huge need for the Bears in the role of “WR who is actually good.”

Net positive for them.

— Unmistakable Latin Flavor (@PBSImpulse9) November 1, 2022

I've seen enough Steelers fans complain about their offensive coordinator to think that the #Bears should be able to get more out of Chase Claypool than they did in Pittsburgh

Still think they overpaid, but there's real upside there

— Lorin Cox (@CoxSports1) November 1, 2022

The Bears pick they gave up for Chase Claypool is going to end up being higher than the one the Steelers used on Chase Claypool (49th overall) 2.5 years ago.

Always pay new car sticker price for a used used car if you can.

— Will Brinson (@WillBrinson) November 1, 2022

So the Bears basically traded 9 games of Roquan Smith for chase Claypool a 5th rounder and a solid veteran LB AJ Klein.

Ryan Poles is DEALING! #DaBears #Bears #Chicago

— Clay Harbor (@clayharbs82) November 1, 2022

I don’t care if people think the Bears slightly overpaid for Chase Claypool. This is an absolute slam dunk trade for Ryan Poles.

Claypool is a 24 year old 6’4 240lb WR that can do it all. And most importantly he can go deep and fits the profile of the WR you want with Fields.
