Buddy Hield Says Warriors 'Seemed Like a Perfect Fit' After Lakers ...
Buddy Hield is joining the Golden State Warriors from the Philadelphia 76ers after a sign-and-trade earlier this week.
Hield will get two years and $21 million guaranteed while the 76ers will get a 2031 second-round pick in return.
Per BasketNews' Edvinas Jablonkskis, the three-point specialist believed the Warriors were the right fit for him despite having reported contract offers from the Los Angeles Lakers and Detroit Pistons.
"It seemed like a perfect fit," Hield said. "Growing up, watching their style of play. The way they coach, the players around them – Steph [Curry], Draymond [Green], [Andrew] Wiggins. The style of play that Steph has."
Hield has been one of the best shooters in the NBA over the past few seasons. From 2019 to last season, he finished with the second-most threes made in the league, only behind Curry and Klay Thompson, who Hield will serve as a replacement for.
Now teaming up with arguably the greatest shooter of all time, Hield will look to learn from Curry while also aiding him in his quest for another ring.
"You never know until it happens," Hield said. "Hopefully, being with Steph, I'll be able to watch him and learn from him. Just learn from all the key guys like Draymond and Wiggins and be on a championship-caliber team. You can see how you learn, how you gonna implicate yourself in that offense. Sometimes, it happens quickly, and sometimes, it doesn't. I'll just try to figure out how I can help him be a more effective and more efficient basketball player."
Last season, Hield averaged 12.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists. His numbers dipped slightly in 2023-24 as he took on a lesser role with the Indiana Pacers and then the 76ers after he was traded to Philadelphia.
Hield should have the chance for an elevated role alongside Curry as the Warriors look to him as a second option from deep.
Golden State is looking to keep its title window open despite missing the playoffs last year and losing a veteran sharpshooter in Thompson, and the Warriors are hoping Hield can help fill the void Thompson left.
