Up against one of the top teams in college football, Oregon State needed a win Friday to keep its season alive.

Despite flashing some bright offensive moments, though, the Beavers fell short in a 34-18 road loss to No. 11 Boise State. As a result, OSU's 2024 campaign ends at 5-7.

Beavers' quarterback Ben Gulbranson finished the day 21-for-37 passing for 226 yards and a touchdown. Darrius Clemons caught eight passes for 123 and scored his second touchdown pass of the year. Anthony Hankerson ran for 111 yards and a touchdown on just 11 carries.

For Boise State, star running back Ashton Jeanty ran for 226 yards and a touchdown on 37 carries.

Oregon State vs Boise State score updates

Maddux Madsen executed a perfect play-action fake and rolled out to his left before finding a seam and punching in a 3-yard touchdown run with 58 seconds to go.

After an OSU turnover on downs, the Broncos' star running back erupted for a 26-yard run, during which he forced four missed tackles, to move Boise State into the red zone.

Boise State reached the Oregon State goal line and had a chance to put the game out of reach with a touchdown. But, Oregon State stopped the Broncos on fourth down and took over at its own 3-yard line, trailing 27-18 with 4:58 to go.

With Oregon State facing 4th-and-10 at midfield, the Beavers opted to roll the dice and keep their offense on the field. Ben Gulbranson found David Wells Jr. down the right sideline and connected with him for a deep pass.

But Wells was unable to stay inbounds, and OSU turned the ball over on downs.

Darrius Clemons caught a short pass from Ben Gulbranson and made multiple defenders miss to reach the end zone for the second time this season.

After the touchdown, OSU opted for a two-point conversion and Gulbranson linked up with Clemons for another reception to cut the Boise State lead to 27-18.

At the start of the fourth quarter, Oregon State's leading receiver, Trent Walker, caught a 10-yard pass to move the Beavers to midfield.

But he left with an apparent injury after the play and was helped back to the sideline by trainers.

Jonah Dalmas hit his second field goal of the day — a 29-yarder — to push Boise State's lead to 27-7 near the end of the third quarter.

Oregon State moved down to the Boise State 20, thanks in large part to a big 22-yard reception by Darrius Clemons.

But the Beavers' drive stalled out, and Everett Hayes came on to kick a 37-yard field goal.

The Broncos stalled out at the Oregon State 26 and were forced to kick a field goal. Jonah Dalmas drilled a 43-yarder to push BSU's lead to 24-7.

Boise State out-gained Oregon State 272-160 in terms of total yardage throughout the first half. The Broncos dominated time of possession, as it held the ball for 20:48 while the Beavers had a TOP of just 9:12.

Anthony Hankerson ran for 99 yards on four carries during the first half for OSU. Ashton Jeanty tallied 106 yards on 21 carries.

Boise State answered back with a quick touchdown to negate Hankerson's explosive run on OSU's previous drive.

Maddux Madsen moved the Broncos 75 yards on eight plays in just 1:28. He capped off the drive with a 6-yard pass to Latrell Caples.

Anthony Hankerson broke loose for an 83-yard touchdown — his longest of the season — to cut the Broncos' lead to 14-7.

Boise State appeared set to take a three-score lead as it marched into Oregon State territory late in the first half.

But Skyler Thomas forced a fumble, and Nikko Taylor recovered it to gift the Beavers possession at their own 8-yard line with 2:15 left in the half.

With Boise State facing 3rd-and-11, Skyler Thomas broke up a pass to force the Broncos to punt for the first time today.

After the ensuing punt, Oregon State will start its drive at its own 14.

On OSU's second drive of the day, Gulbranson was nearly intercepted for what almost certainly would have been a pick-six. A'Marion McCoy jumped Trent Walker's short route and got his hands on the ball, but dropped it.

One play later, the Beavers punted.

Ashton Jeanty finished off an 11-play, 53-yard drive with a 7-yard run up the middle to double Boise State's lead.

Jeanty broke attempted tackles from Isaiah chisom and Skyler Thomas at the goal line.

The Beavers have rotated through all three of their scholarship quarterbacks — Ben Gulbranson, Gevani McCoy and Gabarri Johnson — throughout the season.

In the regular-season finale, Gulrbanson gets the starting nod. He had his most productive game of the year last Saturday in an upset win over Washington State.

Maddux Madsen linked up with Austin Bolt for an 11-yard touchdown pass to give the Broncos an early lead midway through the first quarter.
