2022 Belmont Stakes: Live updates, odds, horses, highlights, results for the 154th running of the race
The 154th Belmont Stakes is taking place today as eight horses compete for the August Belmont Trophy and the blanket of white carnations. Historically, the betting favorite has won 42.5% of the time, and this year the top pick is We the People with 2/1 odds. However, Rich Strike is on a mission to prove his Kentucky Derby victory was not a fluke.
Rich Strike did not participate in Preakness Stakes, so there is no Triple Crown on the line, but the colt is could become the first horse to win both the Kentucky Derby and Belmont in the same year since 1995 when Thunder Gulch pulled it off. Preakness Stakes champion Early Voting is not competing this weekend.
Who will win the Belmont Stakes? Where will Rich Strike finish? And which long shot is a must-back? Visit SportsLine to see Jody Demling's picks, all from the expert who nailed three of the last four Belmont winners.
We the People's trainer Rodolphe Brisset is hoping to see his first ever Grade 1 stakes race victory. The odds are in his favor, as the favorite at Belmont has won each of the past two years. Essential Quality was the winner last year, and Tiz the Law took the trophy in 2020.
Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher has two horses in the race, Nest and Mo Donegal. Mo Denegal was the fifth-place finisher at the Churchill Downs and is coming into this weekend with 5/2 odds. Pletcher has won the Belmont three times already with Rags to Riches (2007), Palace Malice (2013) and Tapwrit (2017).
