Arsenal vs Wolves Premier League 2024 online streaming Start
The Gunners open their 2024-25 season at the Emirates.

Arsenal kick off their 2024-25 Premier League campaign playing host to Wolves at the Emirates. Will this be the year for the Gunners? The club have been adrift from the Premier League pinnacle for more than two decades. They’ve come agonizingly close the last two seasons, finishing second to 115 Charges FC Manchester City. There are only so many different ways you can rearrange the words — we all know how good Arsenal are, what the expectations are, and what needs to be done. Mercifully, it’s time to play the games.

Wolves played Arsenal close twice last season. At the Emirates, the Gunners scored two goals inside the opening 15 minutes only to be stymied for the rest of the match and made to sweat out the win by a Matheus Cunha 86th minute goal. Arsenal prevailed 2-0 at Molineux last spring with Leandro Trossard scoring in the 45th minute and Martin Ødegaard netting in the 95th.

It’s important that the Gunners get off to a good start. With the margins at the top as thin as they are, any slip-up could be the difference come May. You assume that Manchester City and Liverpool are going to drop points (and you hope to take a fair few off them), but you’ve got limited wiggle-room. Matches at the Emirates against opponents that should finish in the bottom half are essentially must-win.

Banking points is particularly important for Arsenal this season because the club have a difficult opening slate of games. After today, the Gunners are away to Aston Villa, home to what could be a tricky Brighton side, away to Spurs, away to City. While those matches not going as well as you’d hope wouldn’t be the death-knell for the season, the psychological effect of feeling behind the eight-ball could make things more difficult. Of course, there is also the possibility that Arsenal do really well in their tough opening run of matches, giving themselves a mental lift heading into the meat of the season.

But that’s all looking past today’s match against Wolves, which Arsenal cannot do. This is the Premier League, if you overlook an opponent, even a weaker one at home, they might get ‘ya. Wolves lost Pedro Neto and Max Kilman this summer and haven’t replaced them with demonstrated quality, but the club have added some young talent. Mikel Arteta’s side cannot underestimate the danger posed by young players eager to make a name for themselves who don’t know enough to be cowed by the mighty Arsenal and the Emirates crowd. Gary O’Neil showed himself to be a pragmatic manager last season. He’ll set his side up to be annoying and obstinate.

O’Neil has a bit of a selection headache because Matheus Cunha, Jorgen Strand Larsen (the on-loan striker Wolves added this summer), and Daniel Podence all have slight fitness issues. Young attackers Leon Chiwome and Enso Gonzalez are both out. Experienced right-side player Nelson Semedo is suspended for the first three matches of the season because he received a straight red card against Liverpool on the final day of last year.

Mikel Arteta’s side is mostly fit to start the season. Fabio Vieira has been dealing with a slight hip issue and may not be fit enough to make the matchday squad. Jurrien Timber has been confirmed available for selection after a “load management” foot problem kept him out at the end of preseason. Takehiro Tomiyasu is out for a few weeks with a knee problem. Kieran Tierney, who is technically on the Arsenal roster right now, is still recovering from the hamstring tear he suffered at the Euros.
