Arkansas football vs LSU score today: Tigers crush lifeless Hogs

Arkansas football vs LSU score today Tigers crush lifeless Hogs
It's Arkansas football vs LSU in Week 8 of the 2024 college football season. Follow along for live score and game updates at Razorback Stadium.

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas football’s turnaround season hit a giant speed bump Saturday night.

The Razorbacks (4-3, 2-2 SEC) couldn’t muster enough offense in a 34-10 loss to No. 8 LSU. The Tigers outgained the Hogs 384-277 and dominated time of possession in the first half to build a two-possession lead they would not relinquish.

The Razorbacks — who have thrived on the ground all season — finished the night with 38 yards rushing. Starting running back Ja’Quinden Jackson looked banged up throughout the game and left with a right leg injury early in the fourth quarter.

Saturday represented an opportunity for Arkansas to start 3-1 for the first time in the Sam Pittman era and record a second top-10 win in a single season for the first time since 1965. Instead, it’s back to the drawing board with a road game at Mississippi State coming up next week.

Below are key plays and more from Arkansas football's home loss against LSU.

Arkansas football vs LSU score updates

LSU 10 6 8 10 34
Arkansas 0 7 3 0 10

Fourth Quarter

  • Durham grinds out his third rushing touchdown of the night, and the Tigers are putting the exclamation point on a blowout victory. LSU came into a raucous environment and turned the Arkansas crowd into a library here in the fourth quarter.
  • Diego Ramos drills his fourth field goal of the night to make it a three-score game. The Hogs have already been overly-reliant on the passing game, and they'll have no other choice now.

Third Quarter

  • A huge swing of events here as LSU linebacker Whit Weeks intercepted Taylen Green, and the Tigers scored on the very next play. It was a tremendous effort by Weeks to tip Green's pass and then make the interception behind the line of scrimmage. Arkansas trails 24-10 after LSU converts the two-point try.
  • For the first time tonight, the Tigers have to punt. The Hogs were helped by two LSU penalties that gave LSU third-and-34. Arkansas takes over at its own 14 with 5:04 remaining in the third quarter.
  • Matthew Shipley converts a 51-yard field goal to trim the deficit to 16-10. A nice drive was derailed by a sack on third down inside LSU territory. The Hogs have struggled running the football tonight, and Ja'Quinden Jackson only has three carries.

Second Quarter

  • The Tigers have scored on all four possessions, but three of those scores have been field goals after another kick from Diego Ramos. The Tigers have already been flagged for eight penalties, with most of those coming as pre-snap infractions. Arkansas trails 16-7 with 3:10 remaining in the first half.
  • The Hogs are on the board, and Armstrong has his first touchdown of the season on a beautifully-designed play that got the wide receiver open on a deep out route. The Hogs marched 75 yards on nine plays and have trimmed the deficit to 13-7 with 8:25 remaining in the first half.
  • The Arkansas defense once again keeps the Tigers out of the end zone and limits the damage to three points. Diego Ramos makes his 48-yard attempt to give LSU a 13-0 lead early in the second quarter.

First Quarter

  • Rashod Dubinion fumbles on the first play of the ensuing drive, and the Tigers recover at the Arkansas 38. LSU could go up three scores with a touchdown here.
  • Damian Ramos converts a 33-yard field goal to give the Tigers a 10-0 lead. Not an ideal start for the Hogs, but they did well to get off the field and keep LSU out of the end zone just before the end of the first quarter.
  • Matthew Shipley misses a 43-yard attempt, and the Hogs come up empty on their first drive. Shipley is taking over this week for the injured Kyle Ramsey. LSU leads 7-0 with 6:21 remaining in the first quarter.
  • The Tigers caught Arkansas' run defense napping on second-and-goal from the 22-yard line, as Durham broke a tackle and sprinted to the left corner of the end zone. It was an easy drive for the LSU offense, who marched 75 yards on eight plays to grab an early lead.

Arkansas vs LSU prediction

Arkansas 27, LSU 24. The Hogs will be the healthiest they've been in weeks, and there is a sense that momentum has returned inside the program. Taylen Green's availability is key, but if he can play this lines up to be a sweet spot for Arkansas to pull off another upset at home. Why not predict another three-point game?
