Ariana Grande gets emotional admitting to getting Botox, fillers
Ariana Grande “didn’t expect to get emotional” while discussing her years-long reliance on Botox and makeup to “hide” from the world.
The “7 Rings” singer, 30, started crying in Vogue’s now-viral “Beauty Secrets” video published Tuesday, in which she takes viewers through her skincare routine.
“When people have things to say about your appearance at a young age, it’s really hard to know what’s worth hearing or not,” said the Grammy winner. “But when you’re 17, you don’t know that yet. I, over the years, used makeup as a disguise or as something to hide behind.”
Though Grande said “that can be so beautiful at times” and she does “still have love for it … and appreciation for it,” her perspective has shifted.
“I think of it as self-expression now and accentuating what is here. Our relationships to beauty are so personal. … Isn’t the secret that we all just want to feel our best and be loved?” she said.
“Full transparency: as a beauty person, as I do my lips, I’ve had a ton of lip filler over the years and Botox. I stopped in 2018 ’cause I felt so… too much,” she continued, eyes welling. “I just felt like hiding, you know. Didn’t expect to get emotional. … For a long time, beauty was about hiding for me. And now I feel like maybe it’s not.”
While Grande didn’t rule out the possibility of one day getting work done again — “to each their own, whatever makes you feel better, I do support” — she has different goals at the moment.
“Since I stopped getting fillers and Botox … I was just like, oh, I wanna see my well-earned cry lines and smile lines. I hope my smile lines get deeper and deeper and I laugh more and more. And I just think aging … can be such a beautiful thing,” she said. “Now, might I get a facelift in 10 years? Might, yeah. But these are just thoughts that I feel like we should be able to discuss if we’re sitting here talking about beauty secrets, f— it. Let’s lay it all out there.”
Grande’s video came weeks after speculation emerged about the timeline of her relationship with “Wicked” co-star Ethan Slater. The Broadway alum, 31, filed for divorce from Lilly Jay, with whom he shares a 1-year-old son, in the days after his relationship with Grande — and her separation from husband Dalton Gomez — came to light.
