Argentina vs Canada live updates Highlights lineups how to watch
The Copa América semifinals begin Tuesday (8 p.m. ET, FS1/Univision) with mighty Argentina taking on Canada at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Out of the four teams left in the 2024 Copa América, only one from North America is still standing. Unfortunately for American soccer fans, it isn't the U.S. men's national team.

The Copa América semifinals begin Tuesday (8 p.m. ET, FS1/Univision) with mighty Argentina taking on Canada at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Canada, playing in its first Copa América, became just the fourth CONCACAF team to reach the tournament's semifinals after beating Venezuela 4-3 in a penalty shootout Friday. Argentina also advanced off a penalty shootout win — 4-2 over Ecuador — despite its biggest star battling an injury.

Lionel Messi, after missing some time earlier in the tournament due to a nagging leg injury, will be in the starting lineup for La Albiceleste, who are heavily favored to secure a berth in Sunday's final. An Argentina victory is -330 at BetMGM with a Canada win at +850.

The two squads met earlier in the group stage with Argentina winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Julián Álvarez and Lautaro Martinez. And after going scoreless against Argentina in their Copa opener, Canada coach Jesse Marsch told reporters at Monday's news conference that "Argentina will have to be the best match we've ever played and it still might not be enough."

    Argentina strikes out of nowhere

From a relative standstill, Argentina just picked apart Canada with two simple passes.

The first, from a Canadian perspective, was harmless: Cristian Romero found Rodrigo De Paul in the defensive midfield position.

The second, from De Paul to Julián Álvarez, shouldn't have been all that harmful, but Moise Bombito and Alistair Johnston let Álvarez find way too much space between them, and then Bombito hesitated on Álvarez's first touch, which was excellent.

1-0. Argentine fans bouncing and singing. Long way back for Canada now.

    Impressive Canada start

20 minutes in, there haven't been many — or really any — clear-cut chances. And the reason is twofold:

    1. Canada, structurally, is set up really soundly

    2. Canada hasn't quite connected on the counter. But openings and opportunities are there for the underdogs. All it takes is one connection...

2/ Jesse Marsch's side will come out in full force and make it annoying but they have to watch out for the over physicality AND make sure to take care of their chances.

Argentina have not played that well offensively. If you want to strike the king, it's now.

    Veremos.
