Dino Babers uses his first timeout with 2:33 as BC picks up a first down inside the 20-yard line. Babers will use his second timeout at the 2:29 mark.

It should be noted Babers is 0-31 when his team scores less than 20 points.

Syracuse drive starts 7:35 at own 20-yard line

Andre Ware is pretty honest on Del Rio-Wilson, whose late delivery on a deep ball to Hatcher is incomplete. Chris Bleich is called for holding.

Now Del Rio-Wilson is hobbling as he throws a swing pass too far out in front of his target.

On 3rd-and-18, Allen gets to the 20-yard. Del Rio-Wilson is hobbling off the field. Not sure if he can plant his foot at this point.

BC has had more than 2:1 time of possession advantage.

On 3rd-and-6, BC is short, and Hafley will try to pin SU deep. Punting from the 41-yard line in plus-territory.

Marlowe Wax with a stop on first down, but tight end Jeremiah Franklin comes back with a big catch across midfield on the next play that goes for 21 yards down to the SU 45-yard line.

Caleb Okechukwu down on the field after the play. Syracuse playing without interior lineman Kevon Darton at the moment, too. Okechukwu is fine.

We’ve got a situation here: Justin Barron scoops up a fumble after laying a big hit on Robichaux. There’s a flag on BC, but targeting is being reviewed.

Ruling on the field stands, and no targeting.

Huge play by Barron playing with one arm.

That’s four penalties by SU over the last three snaps.

Robichaux is stopped on 3rd-and-1 just outside the red zone. SU must keep BC out of the end zone. Seventeen might be enough for the victors.

Jack Stonehouse will look to pin BC deep, but a long punt bounces in the end zone for a touchback.

Halftime: Boston College 10, Syracuse 7

We’ve got the type of game befitting of Northeast football in November.

Syracuse trails Boston College, 10-7 at halftime after coming up empty on two possessions in which it started in plus-territory. SU also missed a 57-yard field goal as time expired in the first half.

Neither quarterback has breached 100 yards through the air, but Boston College is letting Thomas Castellanos air it out more than Syracuse is willing to put the ball in the air.

Carlos Del Rio-Wilson is 4-for-9 for 27 yards and two interceptions in the half. Until the final drive of the half, Boston College defensive backs had more “catches” than Syracuse wide receivers. Tight end Dan Villari and running back LeQuint Allen had the only two catches before a couple of screens to Umari Hatcher at the line of scrimmage.

Del Rio-Wilson, it should be noted, was in line to be the third-string quarterback for the Orange until Justin Lamson transferred to Stanford after spring practice.

SU comes up with a red-zone stop to force a short field goal.

Pregame

Some impactful pregame news: Quarterback Garrett Shrader is out due to injury.

Former Syracuse football coach Paul Pasqualoni and Dwight Freeney are here in concert with the National Football Foundation’s on-field recognition of Freeney’s College Football Hall of Fame induction next month. Pasqualoni, of course, is a former defensive line coach for Boston College as well.

Syracuse looks to avoid a five-game losing streak for the second-straight season when it hosts Boston College on Friday night.

It’s been a week of high emotions since a no-show at Virginia Tech. Syracuse weathered the storm and got to Friday, where it can do its part to wrest control of the narrative around the head coach’s job security.

Or, its Northeast rival can do its part to crank the heat on Dino Babers at a time many in the fan base seem ready for a coaching change.

So little about the direction these two teams appear headed inspires much optimism SU can eke out a win.

And yet, the Orange enters as a slight favorite despite the Eagles riding a four-game winning streak. Boston College (5-3, 2-2 ACC) can clinch bowl eligibility with a victory.

The Eagles have played a lot of close games. They dropped their season opener to Northern Illinois, then made a change to Central Florida-transfer Thomas Castellanos, a dual-threat quarterback who has rushed for more than 125 yards twice in the previous three games.

BC has three-point wins against FCS Holy Cross, Virginia (2-6) and Army (2-6), a seven-point win against UConn (1-7) and a two-point loss to Florida State (8-0), to go along with a three-point, overtime loss to Northern Illinois (4-5).
