Story Links ROSEMONT, Ill. – Big Ten Conference Senior Director of Football Administration A.J. Edds has been appointed to the NCAA Football Rules Committee and will begin his four-year term on September 1, 2023.  “It’s an honor to represent the Big Ten and have the opportunity to meaningfully contribute to this critical working group,” said Edds. “Football has been an integral part of my background for as long as I can remember, and I’m excited to continue to give back to the a game that has afforded me so many opportunities, given me so much.” The mission of the NCAA Football Rules Committee is to develop and evaluate rules changes that will enhance the health and safety of student-athletes, advance the sport, and protect the image of the game. The group has thirteen members from across the NCAA, with six representing Division I, three representatives from Division II and three from Division III, as well as a non-voting secretary. The committee maintains a balance of at least 50% coaches and 25% administrators, with a minimum of two from each of four geographical regions.  Edds assumed his current leadership role at the Big Ten in July 2022, after previously serving as the conference’s assistant director (and later associate director), sports administration since arriving in October 2017. He oversees all day-to-day operations associated with Big Ten football, coordination of the head coaches, as well as facilitating relationships with the conference's numerous bowl partners. The Greenwood, Indiana, native was a three-year starter at linebacker for the Iowa Hawkeyes and a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree. As a senior in 2009, he earned All-Big Ten distinction and captained a Hawkeyes team that finished the year ranked No. 7 in the nation and earned a trip to the Orange Bowl. Following his collegiate playing career, Edds was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft and spent six seasons in the league with the Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots, New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa in management and organizations in 2010 and, in 2019, completed a master’s degree in sports administration from Northwestern University before completing a master’s degree in Public Policy from the University of Chicago in 2022. Edds was inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame in July of 2023.
