Law enforcement activity near downtown Los Gatos

A shelter in place order was issued Wednesday in the area of University Avenue and Towne Terrace in Los Gatos due to law enforcement activity, according to police.

The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office said authorities attempted to serve an eviction notice at an apartment complex on the 100 block of Towne Terrace.

After knocking on the door, a deputy heard what he believed was the sound of a single gunshot come from inside the apartment, the sheriff's office said.

Authorities determined the person in the apartment died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
