Anthony Davis' Injury Status for Lakers vs Grizzlies

The Los Angeles Lakers need to win tonight against the shorthanded Memphis Grizzlies, or else they could potentially be the 10th seed in the Western Conference. There's one important player whose status has been officially upgraded for the game.

Anthony Davis has officially been listed as probable against the Memphis Grizzlies with a left eye contusion. Davis has not played in a game since April 7 against the Minnesota Timberwolves due to the injury, in a game where he only played 12 minutes. Davis missed the last game for the Lakers against the Golden State Warriors, where LA lost a crucial game 134-120.

In two games against the Grizzlies, Anthony Davis is averaging 25.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 4.0 blocks on 60% shooting from the field. While LeBron is arguably the cog that makes the Lakers' offense work, Anthony Davis' presence is vastly far more important for LA's defense. Without Davis, the Lakers don't have many defenders to contain teams, and it showed against the Warriors.

This season, Anthony Davis has been averaging 24.5 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.4 blocks, and 1.2 steals on 55% shooting. His rebounding averages against the Grizzlies are far worse than his season averages, but that could be due to the presence of Jaren Jackson. Regardless of whether Davis plays or not, the Lakers need to win against the Grizzlies or their playoff path will be as difficult as possible.
