Josh Allen: 'Somebody knew what they were doing' on resurfaced offensive tweets

ARLINGTON, Texas – In the hours before they traded up to select Josh Allen at No. 7, officials from the Buffalo Bills called the Wyoming quarterback to ask him to explain the racially insensitive tweets that resurfaced less than 24 hours before the first round.

Allen said other teams called his agent on Thursday, but the Bills were the only team to speak to him directly.

Allen did not deny that he wrote the tweets, which included racial slurs and other offensive language, when he was in high school. He said he deleted them months ago, and was unsure why they surfaced in a Yahoo! Sports report less than 24 hours before the draft.

“Somebody knew what they were doing,” Allen said. “It's out there, it's my fault. I can't blame anyone else for my own mistakes.”

Allen said he’s eager to meet his new teammates in Buffalo, including fellow first-round pick linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, and start earning their respect.

“I am who I am today and I wasn't that guy six years ago when I was 15 years old,” Allen said. “Obviously I've got to man up and take it on the chin, and what happened was not acceptable, and it's never going to happen again.”
