Chicago Fire vs. New England Revolution: Gameday Guide and How to Watch

The six game road trip is over, and tonight the Chicago Fire are back at Soldier Field for the first match in a three game homestand. The New England Revolution are in town for a rematch of the season opener. It was game that ended in a 2-2 draw, but began with the best soccer the Fire had played all season—two beautiful goals in the opening 15 minutes.

This time around, the Revs are looking to extend their lead in the MLS Supporters’ Shield race, and the Fire are in 12th place, 12 points out of a playoff spot with nine games to play.

“At the end of the day, it’s gonna be down to how we come out and play,” goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina said. “It’s always about us on the gameday, and I think if we stick to our gameplan, and what Rapha and the coaching staff want from us, then we’ll come out with a positive result.”

Fire head coach Raphael Wicky has said Slonina will get a run of games in goal as the season winds down. Normal number one Bobby Shuttleworth had been a bright spot on an otherwise poor season, but the 17-year-old Slonina is the future at the goalkeeper position, and giving him games now is important.

After receiving a one game suspension for violating team rules, Gastón Giménez and Ignacio Aliseda are apparently available for selection with the Fire tonight. Francisco Calvo and Brian Gutierrez are both still out with injuries. As for the Revs, designated players Gustavo Bou and Carles Gil headline a slew of players listed as questionable.
