Texas footballs Quinn Ewers injured vs UTSA Arch Manning enters
Ewers was injured early in the second quarter, but the severity is unknown

AUSTIN - University of Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers suffered an undisclosed late in the second quarter against UTSA, necessitating Arch Manning to enter the fray.

On first-and-10 from the Roadrunners’ 20-yard line, Ewers handed off to Quintrevion Wisner, walked away from the play limping, went down, and called for the trainer.

It is unclear what happened, but Ewers was not touched on the play. He may have been injured on the previous play, a 49-yard catch-and-run to tight end Gunnar Helm, who hurled a defender on his way to the red zone.

With Ewers hurt, Manning came in, and on his first play, threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to DeAndre Moore to extend the Longhorns to a 21-0 lead.

Manning’s ran for a 67-yard touchdown on a designed keeper on Texas’ next drive for a 28-7 lead with 11:07 before halftime.

After coming off, Ewers went to the injury tent, then headed to the locker room with 10:01 to play in the first half. Ewers was walking under his own power, but very gingerly while flanked by Longhorns officials. He reappeared late in the first half on the Texas sideline in street clothes after going 14-for-16 for 186 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

With Ewers on the sideline, ESPN replays showed him clearly pointing to the left side of his ribs, while motioning to teammates and personnel to not come too close to the area.
