New York Yankees star Aaron Judge launches 62nd home run, sets AL's single-season record

The American League has a new single season home run king.

Aaron Judge, New York Yankees' star, launched his 62nd homer of the season Tuesday against the Texas Rangers. He broke the AL record he shared in the past with Roger Maris.

Judge was unable to score during the Yankees' final regular season homestand. The Yankees played three games against the Baltimore Orioles after Judge had deposited a Tim Mayza sinker in the Toronto Blue Jays' bullpen to tie Maris' record. Judge was back on the road. He had been 2-for-9 with two singles against the Rangers through Tuesday's doubleheader. Judge took Texas pitcher Jesus Tinoco deep into the first inning to reach No. 62.

After Judge's home run, the Yankees gathered at home plate to meet him. He removed his helmet and walked back to the dugout in order to thank the fans. He was given a standing ovation again when he returned to the field in the final inning.

Cory Youmans, a Dallas resident, caught the ball while he was sitting in Section 31. When Youmans was asked what he would do with the ball after it was taken away by security, Youmans replied, "Good question." It's not something I have thought about."

Three days after the 61st Anniversary of the day Maris passed Babe Ruth, the record-setting homer was made.

Judge said Wednesday that it was an honor to be associated with Maris after he became the Yankees' only player to hit 61 home runs in franchise history. "I can't even describe it. It's an honor to have seen what Maris did in this match. It's a dream come true to be able to tie Roger Maris.

Judge is only ahead of Mark McGwire (70), Barry Bonds (73), and Sammy Sosa (66.6, 64, 63), who are all on MLB's single season home run list. Roger Maris Jr. said this week that Judge holds the AL record. However, Judge believes Judge should be recognized for being the true "homerun king".

Maris' record was the all-time MLB record until McGwire broke it in 1998 when he hit 70. McGwire was surpassed by Bonds in 2001 with the official single-season baseball record of 73 home runs. Maris Jr., however, hampered the achievements of the two sluggers who achieved their feats during what was known as the steroid era.

Maris Jr. stated earlier this week that Judge "plays the game the right" "And it gives people the opportunity to look at somebody who should not only be revered because he hit 62 home runs in the American League but also because he was the single-season home run champ. That's who he really is. It's 62 and I believe that's what should happen."

Judge, who was raised in San Francisco, is a Giants fan and believes that Bonds' 73 homers are the rightful single-season mark.

Aaron Boone, New York manager, said that he feels privileged to be a part of baseball history.

Boone stated, "The history is one of the game's calling cards." "The number 61. That number has been a part of my life all my life. One thing that makes our sport unique is its history. We are very good at history. This has been a year, and a season in which we're in one of those historic moments. It's tied to a number. That's pretty cool.

The Yankees will enter postseason as the No. The Yankees will be the No. 2 seed in American League. They will end the regular season Wednesday in Texas.
